DJ Marco Mei presents his 2020 episode 36 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across the region and internationally.
Marco, an Italian DJ and producer, has almost thirty years of experience. During his adolescence, he developed a strong interest in Afrobeat, Reggae, Funk, Disco, early Hip Hop and the emergence of electronic music.
In the early 1990s, he began his work as a disc jockey and played at venues across Italy during his formative years. Regular appearances helped him develop his skills at festivals and clubs around the world.
His international dates have included shared bills with Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Ralph Falcon and Sander Kleinenberg. During the early 2000s, he held a residency at Pacha Club in Sharm el-Sheikh before performing at nightclubs worldwide.
Among the venues where he has played are OBS in Saigon, Fuse in Brussels, CE' LA VI in Taipei, Shore Club in Hoi An, Bangaluu in Berlin, G-Star in Pattaya, Woobar in Bali and Global Dance Moscow. Marco lives in Taipei, Taiwan, having moved there in the early 2010s, and regularly performs at clubs and venues in the city.
In 2009, Marco formed a production duo with his friend Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884, creating Bicycle Corporation. Their studio collaboration has produced more than 50 tracks and remixes since its formation.
These releases have received plays within the House Music scene from established artists. Marco is part of the group of DJs and producers associated with Scientific Sound Asia’s online radio station and our DJ Agency.
His weekly programme features Deep House, Tech House, Afro House, Melodic Techno, Nu-Disco, Indie Dance, Electronica and Techno. Based in Taipei, he works across a wider South East Asian network, with weekly broadcasts through the radio station and bookings available through the DJ agency.
Marco Mei’s 2020 episode 36 show opens in Indie Dance territory with Parla’s Le Paradis and Elay's Melody, both on Needwant. Jarc’s Love Ecstasy on Jarc Sounds and Zombies in Miami’s When Your Time Has Gone on Permanent Vacation extend the early section with measured club momentum.
Kiwi’s Hello Echo on KOMPAKT introduces an Electronic shade before Love Regenerator and Steve Lacy’s Mark Broom remix of Live Without Your Love shifts the programme towards House Music on Defected. Bobby Blanco and Miki Moto’s Low Steppa extended remix of 3AM, also on Defected, keeps the rhythm direct and club-focused.
t e s t p r e s s follow with SMML and Heavy Bad Yin on Trick, sustaining the House Music emphasis through the middle of the set. Steve Bug’s Jack Is Back on Poker Flat Recordings brings in Deep Tech House, before Rex The Dog’s Wolfram remix of Circulate returns to an Electronic edge on KOMPAKT.
Malandra Jr.’s Magnetik on Diynamic opens a Melodic House and Techno passage. Moby’s AquAdro rework of Natural Blues on 4our Records deepens the mood through melodic techno, while DJ Punch’s Punch Groove # 1 in the Baby Powder Groove Mix on Toupee Records leads into Cavego’s Indie Dance track Rask Gange on Eskimo Recordings.
WK7’s Wait on Power House restores House Music before Digital Domain’s 1992 track I Need Relief on Rabbit City Records raises the pressure with Peak Time Techno. Kelis’s Deborah De Luca edit of Milkshake on Bandcamp then precedes DJ Duke’s No Mistakes on Deejay Exclusive and David Penn KPD’s Jerkin on Armada Deep.
The closing stretch turns towards Disco through My Mine’s Maximals edit of Hypnotic Tango, presented here via SoundCloud. Franz Scala’s Sabrina on Feel The Drive closes with Italo Disco, leaving the programme on a synth-led final note.
