Anonymous Z presents Not So Anonymous show 17 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Anonymous Z is well known in Saigon, Vietnam, as the founder of Mad Circus Epic parties. He also founded Glassroom, Bahrain’s first underground DJ community.
Working with a group of people from varied backgrounds, he organised parties and after-parties, both legal and otherwise, which local nightlife audiences remember as legendary. His motto then was "They tried to bury us, but they forgot we were seeds".
After joining the Banana Hustle crew, he helped develop its punchy tropical approach. Originally a Techno head, he developed a taste for digging out distinctive tracks across Afro, House, Disco and Funk.
His selections bring together hand-picked Techno and recent Indie Dance, and have taken him to underground venues including Arcan, The Lighthouse, Broma and Vitamin D after-parties. His skills as a selecta have been central to those appearances.
His sets are usually improvised and shaped by the dancefloor, moving through several musical styles with tense, grooving bass lines and melodic storytelling. Those non-linear sets play with emotion while avoiding a fixed route through the music.
Anonymous Z's Not So Anonymous show 17 opens with David Bowie’s Let’s Dance in the Skelesys Remix, a House Music interpretation released through Rhino. Arthur Johnson’s Time Laps on La Dame Noir Records and Pin Up Club’s Two Mamarrachos remix of Comets on Roam Recordings establish the Indie Dance direction.
Motel77 featuring MIIA brings Morning Call from La Dame Noir Records before Rodion’s Phobos on Iptamenos Discos deepens the mood. Arbeid Adelt!’s Todd Terje remix of Death Disco on Play Out! adds Electro edge, followed by Skatebård and Lauer’s Volpi Polari on Live At Robert Johnson, with its Nu-Disco character.
Alvaro Cabana’s Callejon Oscuro on Critical Monday and Arthur Johnson’s Eastern on La Dame Noir Records sustain the Indie Dance thread. Mufti’s Each Other, also on Critical Monday, leads into The Juan MacLean’s A Place Called Space on DFA Records SC Distribution and Lifelike featuring Del Prete Cusato’s Nu-Disco cut Heatwave on TuneCore.
Adrian Marth’s Mufti remix of Testarrosa Girl on Emerald & Doreen Records keeps the tension taut before Man 2.0’s Mufti remix of Hooked On U on Exotic Refreshment introduces Melodic House and Techno. Thodoris Triantafillou and Andianna then bring Cinderella from Glory Hill Studio back to the programme’s Indie Dance centre.
Vitalic’s Ooey on Correspondant keeps the late section focused, while Amarcord’s Always Down on Ombra International introduces measured Electronica. Llewellyn’s Falling Apart on Riotvan returns to Indie Dance and sets up a more direct final stretch.
Barko’s Follow That Funk on Discobox Records supplies the closing lift of Funky House. Thomass Jackson’s Silbato Célibe on United Colors of Rhythm finishes the set in Indie Dance territory, retaining the high-voltage octave-synth bass and disco tradition introduced at the start.
