Marco Mei presents episode 31 of his 2020 radio series on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter, DJ agency and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Originally from Italy, Marco is a seasoned DJ and producer with close to thirty years of experience. His musical interests began in his early teens with Afrobeat, Reggae, Funk, Disco and early Hip Hop before he moved towards electronic music.
In the early 1990s, Marco began his career as a disc jockey, playing extensively across Italy before taking his work to festivals and clubs internationally. He has shared stages with Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Ralph Falcon and Sander Kleinenberg.
By the early 2000s, Marco held a residency at Pacha Club in Sharm el-Sheikh, which led to further appearances at nightclubs around the world. These included OBS in Saigon, Fuse in Brussels, CE' LA VI in Taipei, Shore Club in Hoi An, Bangaluu in Berlin, G-Star in Pattaya, Woobar in Bali and Global Dance Moscow.
In 2009, Marco formed the production duo Bicycle Corporation with his friend Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. Together, they have released more than 50 tracks and remixes across Deep House, Tech House, French House and Techno.
Based in Taipei since 2010, Marco regularly plays at events across the city and works across a wider South East Asian network. Before the 2020 lockdown, he frequently travelled through Asia and Eastern Europe for club and venue appearances.
His weekly show covers Deep House, Tech House, Afro House, Melodic Techno, Nu-Disco, Indie Dance, Electronica and Techno. Marco is available for international bookings through the Scientific Sound Asia DJ agency, while his weekly programme is broadcast through its radio station.
Marco Mei’s 8th August 2020 episode 31 opens with Henri Bergmann and Julian Wassermann’s Maenad on Watergate Records, establishing a Progressive House introduction. Fur Coat’s Hurricane, featuring Running Pine in Tim Green’s remix, leads into Esoteric Circle’s Night Appearance on Oddity Records and its Melodic House and Techno character.
Groove Horizon’s Too Old for This Shit brings Deep House to the early section through the artist’s own label. Populous’s Flores No Mar, featuring Emmanuelle on Wonderwheel Recordings, is followed by Monkey Safari’s Palomar on Get Physical Music, a House Music selection.
Lake Avalon’s Phoenix on Plattenbank returns to Melodic House and Techno before Redraft Memories raises the pressure with Revolution on Redrum Music. Woo York’s Good Old Days, featuring Michael Mayo, then gives way to The Soul Brothers’ Tukan in Urmet K’s remix on Akbal Music, bringing an Organic House passage.
The Killers’ Mr. Brightside in the Zeskullz remix introduces Indie Dance before Mario Basanov’s When I'm Falling, featuring Nnaji in the Runemark remark, returns to a house-led feel. Superlounge’s Release the Tension on Gartenhaus follows with Deep Tech House weight.
Cassie’s Long Way 2 Go on Bad Boy Records introduces an R&B vocal change, while Lady Alma’s All the Way Far Away on BBE Music adds an electronic turn. Jan Jackson’s When I Think of You in Conan Liquid’s Reel To Reel Re Re Re-Edit keeps the later section focused on vocal-led material.
Roberto Surace’s Joys in Nic Fanciulli’s Club Re-Edit on Defected restores the house emphasis before Daniel Stefanik’s Deep Inside in Andrea Oliva’s remix on Moon Harbour Recordings brings Tech House into the final run. Offaiah’s Play It By Ear in the Club Mix on Defected, Honey Dijon and Hadiya George’s Not About You on Classic Music Company, and Barbara Tucker’s Stop Playing with My Mind in the Karl Seery edit close the programme with vocal house selections.
