DJ Marco Mei presents the playlist for his 2020 episode 24 on Scientific Sound Asia, originally broadcast on 20 June 2020. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
The Italian DJ and producer Marco has a career spanning more than three decades, shaped by an early interest in Afrocentric and electronic music. He began DJing in Italy during the early 1990s and developed his craft through appearances at festivals and clubs around the world.
Those early years brought Marco alongside Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Ralph Falcon and Sander Kleinenberg. By the turn of the millennium, he had secured a residency at Pacha Club in Sharm el-Sheikh, which led to further international nightclub appearances.
His subsequent dates included Observatory in Saigon and Woobar in Bali, among other venues. These bookings placed his sets before different club audiences while extending his work beyond Italy.
In 2009, Marco joined Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884, to form Bicycle Corporation. Their studio catalogue includes more than 50 tracks and remixes across electronic music.
Marco is based in Taipei, having relocated there at the beginning of the 2010s, and performs at events across the city. He also works across a wider South East Asian network and is available for international bookings through the Scientific Sound Asia DJ agency.
His weekly programme covers Deep House, Tech House, Afro House, Melodic Techno, Nu-Disco, Indie Dance, Electronica and Techno. The selection gives him space to place contemporary club material alongside the influences developed through his international career.
Marco Mei’s 2020 episode 24 set opens with Oscar P’s Dirty Talk in the Norty Cotto Raunchy Remix before Gettoblaster and Servante’s This Beat. INVŌKER’s Indie Dance track Batumi in the Biesmans Remix arrives on AZZUR, followed by Steve Lawler’s Don’t Ask in the Jansons Remix from Nothing Else Matters.
Disclosure’s Energy brings House Music through Universal-Island Records Ltd., while Foals’ Into The Surf appears in the Hot Since 82 remix. Jamie Lidell’s Believe In Me and HOSH, 1979 and Jalja’s Midnight (The Hanging Tree) in the MK Extended Remix carry the early section into a brief Rock reference and back towards club-focused rhythm.
DeLacy’s Hideaway in the Nick Reach Up Extended Remix is followed by DJ Le Roi and Roland Clark’s I Get Deep in the Mirco Esposito Edit. Brandy’s Baby in the Artmann Edit then leads to Rui Da Silva and Pax’s Touch Me, released through Kismet Records.
Purple Disco Machine and Sophie and the Giants’ Hypnotized in the Loods Remix opens the later run before Tom Caruso and Odyssey Inc.’s Everybody Dancin on Glasgow Underground. Jay Vegas adds Everybody on Hot Stuff in a Funky House mode, while Daniel Stefanik’s Deep Inside in the Andrea Oliva Remix brings Tech House from Moon Harbour Recordings.
Eats Everything’s Miss Honey adds another firm club track before Glowal’s Night Queen appears on Watergate Records. Ayhan Akca’s Darkness, released through Ethereal Future Music, introduces Melodic House and Techno to the late sequence.
Jamie Jones’ Bappi on Hot Creations sets up Moon Rocket’s Reciprocity, issued by Foliage Records as Afro House. Sylvester’s Living For The City, in the Tribute To M. L. King Jr. Edit on UNIDISC MUSIC INC., closes the set with an R&B reference; from Taipei, Marco’s weekly broadcast and regional booking work provide the context for this wide-ranging selection.
