DJ Marco Mei presents his 2020 episode 23 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and event-management organisation, and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
By the time of this 2020 episode, Marco had close to three decades of experience as an Italian DJ and producer. His early fascination with Afrocentric music and the emergence of electronica led him to begin DJing in the early 1990s.
Beginning in Italy, Marco developed his career through festivals and clubs internationally, sharing stages with Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Ralph Falcon and Sander Kleinenberg. His work has taken him from OBS in Saigon to Woobar in Bali, alongside appearances at other prominent nightclubs worldwide.
A residency at Pacha Club in Sharm El-Sheikh at the turn of the millennium helped establish his international profile. It led to further touring opportunities and placed him alongside established figures from the electronic music world.
In 2009, Marco joined Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884, to form Bicycle Corporation. Their collaboration has produced more than 50 tracks and remixes, which have been well received within the electronic music community.
Based in Taipei, Taiwan, Marco is part of the local DJ and producer community while working across a wider South East Asian network. He broadcasts a weekly radio show spanning Deep House, Tech House, Afro House and related styles, and is available for bookings through the Scientific Sound Asia DJ agency.
DJ Marco Mei’s 2020 episode 23 set opens with Homero Espinosa Vs. Mr. Heard’s Can You Feel My Dream?, before Omar S and Kai Alcé bring Jive Time in the Fxhe Mix to Techno on NDATL Muzik. Serious Intention’s You Don’t Know in the Crissy Kybosh Remix and 2 House’s Go Techno in Tony Humphries’ Spagatone Mix establish the early House Music section through Easy Street Records and Crosstown Rebels.
First Choice’s The Player in Angelo Ferreri’s dub is followed by Four Tet’s 23mins 36sec Boiler Room, keeping the opening run varied in texture. Jayda G’s Both Of Us on Ninja Tune then sits beside Rosso’s How We Do It (In Vienna).
DJ Koze’s Pick Up in the Alexander Som Remix brings Pampa Records into the middle passage, followed by Darius Syrossian’s Tivoli’s Groove on DFTD. New Order’s Blue in the Jamie 3-26 Edit and Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds’ Red Right Hand in the Dragutesku Edit widen the selection’s source material.
Klein & M.B.O.’s Dirty Talk in the 1983 Warehouse Edit introduces Italo-Disco through Essential Media Mod. Snuff Crew & Hard Ton follow with Jack Until on Schrödinger's Box, an Electronic entry, before Taana Gardner’s What Can I Do For You arrives on E Legal.
Victor Simonelli featuring Solution brings Feels So Right on Unkwn Records into the later sequence. Fish Go Deep and Tracey K’s The Cure & The Cause in the Dr Packer Remix, released through ITH (Defected In The House), precedes Jean Jacques Smoothie’s 2 People featuring Tara Busch in the Dr Packer Remix on DVINE Sounds, identified here with Drum and Bass.
Vyvyan’s That Time I Dated on Bordello A Parigi leads into Crowd Control’s Keep On Jumpin on ORE. Guz closes with U Got My Love on Sink or Swim, bringing the programme to a direct Dance finish.
