Tam Yeung presents the track list for the fifth edition of his weekly show, Tam Yeung Show 05, on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter, DJ agency and music-news platform connecting listeners across Asia and internationally.
Tam Yeung, real name Tim Young, is a DJ from Essex in the United Kingdom who was based in Da Nang, Vietnam, at the time of publication. His influences span techno, experimental electronics, metal, jazz, folk, disco, funk and other sounds that have shaped his eclectic approach to DJing.
He began DJing in 2004 at the semi-legendary, chaotic Club Clor parties at the Brixton Windmill. The monthly events combined live bands, DJs and an anything-goes attitude, and Tam became known for selections that resisted expectation and brought unusual textures to the dance floor.
From those beginnings, he performed in several countries through determination, adaptability and a deep commitment to crate-digging. His travels included squat parties in Berlin, beach bars in Malaysia, Thailand and Malta, underground venues in Poland, techno clubs in Moscow and brewery events in London.
He has been part of DJ crews and held residencies in Aberdeen and London, playing everything from hard disco to stripped industrial rhythms. At the time of publication, global events had placed dance floors on hold just as he intended to explore psychedelic and left-field sounds for open-minded ravers.
With clubs paused, his digging and curating energy shifted to the airwaves. His Scientific Sound Asia show provided a space to share the adventurous, wide-ranging selections that had defined his career, giving listeners an unpredictable weekly programme.
Tam Yeung Show 05 opens with Susumu Yokota’s Future Tiger on The Leaf Label, where gentle melodic fragments establish an Electronica mood. Ko Shin Moon’s Leïla Nova on Akuphone brings Middle-Eastern strings and psychedelic pulses before Don’t DJ’s Zwischending on Berceuse Heroique introduces Peak Time Techno through hypnotic polyrhythms.
India Jordan’s Emotional Melodical on Local Action supplies a rush of hardcore euphoria with echoes of 1990s warehouse music, while Bochum Welt’s EOD remix of More Light on Central Processing Unit has a crystalline, Rephlex-adjacent character. The Sweat Boyz take the set back to 1988 Miami with the vocoder-led Do You Want To Percolate? on West Madison Street Records, following the earlier House Music lift with Bochum Welt’s raw, deep and hypnotic techno treatment.
Monolake’s Ghosts on Imbalance Computer Music lowers the temperature with glacial dub chords, and Biosphere’s Patashnik on Apollo / Origo Sound opens into arctic ambient space. Drexciya’s Wavejumper on Underground Resistance follows with mythic underwater electro, a revered transmission from Detroit’s aquatic legion.
SØS Gunver Ryberg’s In The Core on Whities brings hard-edged percussion, while Nkisi’s IV on UIQ raises the intensity through high-velocity Congolese trance patterns. Gavin Bryars and Aphex Twin’s edit of Raising The Titanic on Point Music evokes the creaking of a sunken liner, before Walton’s Submerged on Kaizen adds weightless Bass Music pressure.
Foul Play’s 1993 jungle classic Dubbing You on Oblivion Records still sounds lush, and μ-Ziq’s Within A Sound on Planet Mu returns with intricate drill’n’bass filigree from his 2024 Grush album. Robert Hood then strips the set to focused repetition with Minus on Tresor Records, bringing the raw, deep and hypnotic character of Deep Techno.
DHS detonates the bingo-fuelled rave charge of The House Of God on Hangman Records, while Green Velvet’s Explorer on Relief Records adds Chicago vocal madness. Fluxion’s Stream II on Chain Reaction provides breathing room through Dub Techno currents before Kali Malone’s monumental organ drones in Sacer Profanare on iDEAL Recordings close on a sacred and profane note of Classical weight.
