Tam Yeung presents Show 03 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Tam Yeung, whose real name is Tim Young, is a DJ from Essex in the United Kingdom who lives in Da Nang, Vietnam. His main musical influences include Techno, Experimental, Electronica, Ambient, Metal, Jazz, Folk, Disco, Funk and other genres.
Tam began DJing in 2004 at the semi-legendary and moderately infamous monthly CLUB CLOR events at the Brixton Windmill. The parties featured bands and DJs, gained a fearsome reputation for people letting their hair down, and saw Tam select tracks that broke the norm.
Since then, he has played in several countries around the world through a mixture of talent and fortitude, including squat parties in Berlin, beach bars in Malaysia, Thailand and Malta, underground venues in Poland, techno clubs in Moscow and breweries in London. He has been part of DJ crews and residencies in Aberdeen and London, playing anything from hard disco to soft industrial.
At the time of publication, the pandemic had interrupted Tam's plans to play psychedelic sounds for open-minded ravers in Da Nang. He instead brought his crate-digging efforts to the airwaves, playing sounds of science in Asia on Scientific Sound Asia radio.
Tam Yeung's Show 03 on Scientific Sound Asia opens with Roedelius's Nahwärme before Seefeel's Climatic Phase #3 brings Ambient and Experimental textures from Too Pure. Hodge's Shadows In Blue, released through Houndstooth, adds a taut Breaks rhythm.
The Soft Pink Truth's Sinning on Thrill Jockey brings a Leftfield turn before Patricia Kokett's Szamanka on Knekelhuis moves into Peak Time Techno. Charanjit Singh's Raga Bhairav, issued by Bombay Connection, follows with Trance elements.
Psychic Ills' Juan Atkins remix of Mantis on RVNG INTL. returns to Peak Time Techno, leading into Kraftwerk's Antenna on Parlophone UK and its Dance Music framing. Joy Orbison and Overmono's Bromley, released on XL Recordings, brings the sequence back to Peak Time Techno.
96 Back's Excitable, Girl on Central Processing Unit introduces precise Electronica. MONOTON's Soundsequence on ORAL then shifts towards Abstract forms.
Basic Channel's Phylyps Base, released on the group's own Basic Channel label, brings raw, deep and hypnotic Techno into focus. Kenny Larkin's Track on Rush Hour restores Peak Time Techno before Karenn's Crush the Mushrooms on Voam returns to the raw, deep and hypnotic strain.
Schacke's Trained To The Floor on KAOS brings Dance-Techno intensity, after which Venetian Snares' Koonut Kaliffee on Planet Mu introduces Drum and Bass. Rafael Anton Irisarri closes with Empire Systems on Black Knoll Editions, returning the programme to Ambient and Experimental territory.
