Tam Yeung presents Tam Yeung’s Show 02 on Scientific Sound Asia, with the playlist published for its 12 May 2020 edition. Scientific Sound Asia is an electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Tam Yeung, real name Tim Young, is a DJ from Essex in the United Kingdom who lives in Da Nang, Vietnam. His principal influences include Techno, Experimental and electronic sounds, alongside Metal, Jazz, Folk, Disco, Funk and many other styles.
Tam began DJing in 2004 at the semi-legendary, moderately infamous monthly Club Clor events at the Brixton Windmill. The parties brought together bands and DJs, earning a fearsome reputation for people letting their hair down.
He became known for playing tracks outside the norm and has played in several countries through talent and fortitude. His appearances have included squat parties in Berlin, beach bars in Malaysia, Thailand and Malta, underground venues in Poland, Techno clubs in Moscow and breweries in London.
Tam has been part of DJ crews and held residencies in Aberdeen and London, playing everything from hard disco to soft industrial. At the time of publication, the pandemic had disrupted his hopes of playing psychedelic sounds to open-minded ravers in Da Nang.
Instead, he brought his crate-digging work to the airwaves through Scientific Sound Asia radio. The selection presents the wide-ranging musical approach that has shaped his DJing.
Tam Yeung’s Show 02 on Scientific Sound Asia opens with Jens-Uwe Beyer’s Final 9 on Kompakt, introducing measured Electronica. Special Request follows with Shepperton Moon Landing on Houndstooth, bringing in the angular pulse of Electro.
Autechre’s Chatter on Warp Records adds an Alternative edge before Phuture Assassins’ Shot Like Dis on Suburban Base Records introduces Drum and Bass. Fever 103° then takes the programme into Industrial territory with You’re So Sad on Avon Terror Corps.
Muslimgauze’s Jerusalem Knife (Wail Mix) appears before Shackleton’s abstract Mountains Of Ashes on Perlon. Acid Arab’s Ejma on Crammed Discs supplies the set’s Acid House turn.
Senking returns the programme to Electronica with Winter Brevet on Raster-Noton, followed by Andrea’s LG _Amb on Ilian Tape. João Pais Filipe’s V on Discrepant extends that electronic focus with an insistent, textural approach.
Andrea’s cut gives way to Breakbeat, while João Pais Filipe’s Nine Doors (Ukaea Mix) keeps the experimental thread intact. Pye Corner Audio’s Hollow Earth on Ghost Box brings in Breaks, before Klein’s Claim It on Parkwuud Entertainment introduces House Music.
Silicon Scally’s Asynchronous on Central Processing Unit moves into Peak Time Techno, followed by Assembler Code and Jensen Interceptor’s Rotorwerks on Rattleznake. Remarc’s Rip (DJ Hype Remix) and Rhythm Is Rhythm’s Strings Of Life (Unreleased Mix) close the selection, leaving the programme with a firm Techno finish.
