Digital D presents his fifteenth show on Scientific Sound Asia, recorded for the programme published on 17 April 2020. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Digital D, real name DaTron King, is a DJ and producer from Louisiana who was raised in Texas, United States. He played violin and cello for many years while growing up, and listening to Motown with his parents began his early musical development.
During his teens, he lacked the means to obtain music or own a radio, but at 18 he began buying records and started to perform as a DJ. His formative DJ years began with Drum and Bass before Bob Sinclar's album Paradise led him towards House Music.
He performed at venues across Dallas before relocating to Taipei, Taiwan, in 2008. After establishing himself there, he explored the local nightlife and played at Taiwan's major clubs and festivals while keeping clear of mainstream events.
Digital D held a five-year Taipei residency, performing week in and week out. During the pandemic in 2020, he spent time at home, returned to production and included one of his own tracks in this show.
His productions are well received in the underground music community, and his latest release on Berimbolo Records is a Drum and Bass track entitled Mr Finesse. Drum and Bass and House Music are central to his sound, and at the time of publication he was working on around five tracks intended for release over the following year.
Digital D's fifteenth Scientific Sound Asia show opens with Gary Caos's Hypnotize and Shotz, two Funky House cuts from Casa Rossa. Wade's They Know then brings the firmer Tech House approach of Snatch! Records into the opening stretch.
Junior Sanchez and Man Without A Clue follow with The Big One, a Clueless Music release rooted in House Music. DJ Dan and WhiteNoize's Engine No. 9 on InStereo Recordings and Peter Brown's Miracles on Mjuzieek Digital keep that club-focused energy in place.
Marco Lys and Prok & Fitch's Bango on Bedroom Muzik brings another Tech House turn before Sean Finn's Crazibiza remix of Riders On The Storm arrives via Warner Dance Labels. Miguel Reis's Rogerio Martins We Just Love The Music remix of Classic Motherfucker Record, released by Piston Recordings, introduces Deep House textures.
Digital D places his own promo Deep Half after Miguel Reis, giving the programme a direct connection to his production work. Leftwing : Kody's Bump And Flex on Off Recordings and Audiojack with Kevin Knapp's FCL Weemix of Stay Glued feat. Kevin Knapp on Gruuv extend the deeper section.
Disclosure's Moonlight on Dope provides an Electronica diversion before Grades's Freedom on One More Tune returns to Deep House. Jakobin & Domino's Suki on Large Music keeps the pace measured, while Art Of Tones's Damped Xtra Dub on We Play House Recordings adds a dub-oriented edge.
JVXTA's SS Anne on Distant Hawaii holds the deeper line before Folamour's ThatManMonkz remix of Y'all Right on Glitterbox Recordings introduces Electro detail. Busta Funk's Seriousfunkilla on OM Records leads into Phil Weeks's Can't Get Enough on Robsoul Recordings, closing the programme with a return to Funky House.
