Ezmun presents his first Cooking With Gas guest show, Scientific Sound Asia Podcast 101. Scientific Sound Asia is an electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Ezmun is originally from Cumbria in the United Kingdom and had relocated to Vietnam to develop his ambitions as both a DJ and producer. Like many DJs, he started in his bedroom before playing house parties for close friends and cohorts.
In 2019, he made his breakthrough into clubs, playing venues in Manchester, Hanoi, Laos and Ho Chi Minh City. Enamoured with the dark, sparse atmosphere of minimal half-time 140s and the lairy clatter of percussive leftfield music, he uses these as peaks and troughs in an energetic techno setting.
Although Ezmun was still honing his art, his move from playing for friends to appearing on local stages had attracted notice within Vietnam's underground. That recognition led to this station appearance, while plans were being made to add him to the DJ agency roster.
Ezmun's Cooking With Gas guest show, Podcast 101 opens with Aphex Twin's CHEETAHT2 on Ld spectrum, setting a Techno tone. Tzusing's Esther on L.I.E.S. Records introduces Breaks, before Pearson Sound's XLB on Pearson Sound brings UK Garage alongside Batu's Marius on Hessle Audio and TSVI's Parade on Nervous Horizon in Bass / Club territory.
Randomer's Bring on Hemlock Recordings brings a raw, deep and hypnotic Techno edge, followed by upsammy's Vacate or Annihilate on Whities. Asusu's Sendak on Tectonic, Silas & Snare's Dreamscape on Kaizen and Walton's Point Blank on Tectonic keep the rhythm tense and percussive.
Lokane's Bomba on Nervous Horizon returns to the bass-focused material before Sudanim's Lightmare on Her Records adds Grime pressure. TenTwentySeven's Cogs on MAJÍA leads into Kangding Ray's Blue Oscillant on ara, whose Dark Ambient atmosphere gives way to Dark Sky's Double U on Tectonic and its Electronica detail.
Santa Muerte & El Blanco Nino's Pal Piso on MAJÍA, DJ JM's No Days Off on Nervous Horizon and Beneath's Blonde on Keysound Recordings sharpen the club-focused middle section. Yak's Stampede on R&S Records then brings the programme back towards fractured breaks.
D1's Missin' on Tempa introduces 140 / deep Dubstep / grime elements before Rebekah's Enigma on Soma Records restores the raw, deep and hypnotic techno focus. The contrast gives the closing stretch room to move between stripped-back pressure and denser rhythmic detail.
Giant Swan's Pandaemonium on KECK brings an Alternative edge before Boddika and Inland's Don't Dream on Counterchange Recordings returns to deep, hypnotic techno. Shed's That Beats Everything on The Final Experiment closes on Peak Time Techno, ending the set with a firm, concentrated finish.
