Marco Mei presents his 2019 episode 21 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia and the rest of Asia.
With more than twenty-five years of experience, Marco is an Italian DJ and producer. Influenced by the emergence of Afrobeat and electronic music while growing up, he began his DJ career in the early 1990s.
Over the years, he has played festivals and nightclubs around the world. His appearances have included performances alongside Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Ralph Falcon, Harry “Choo Choo” Romero, Justin Berkmann, Funk D’Void and Sander Kleinenberg.
During the 2000s, Marco held a residency at Pacha Club in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, which led to international DJ dates. Those appearances included Arcan in Saigon, Fuse in Brussels, Room 18 in Taipei, Shore Club in Hoi An, Bangaluu in Berlin, G-Star in Pattaya, SOS Supper Club in Bali and NLO in Minsk.
In 2009, Marco teamed up with Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884, to form Bicycle Corporation. Across the following years, the pair released more than fifty tracks and remixes spanning Deep House, Tech House, French House and Techno.
Much of their work has received airplay from DJs including Sneak, Mauro Picotto, Dubfire, Axwell, Danny Tenaglia and Above & Beyond. Marco is based in Taipei and brings that experience to his work across the regional electronic-music network.
His 2013 track Ciao Taipei marked an important local breakthrough and led to his association with the international artists broadcast on Scientific Sound Asia radio. Marco’s weekly show draws on Deep House, Tech House, Afro House, Melodic Techno, Nu-Disco, Indie Dance, Electronica and Techno.
Based in Taipei, Marco works across a wider South East Asian network developed through clubs, events and regional electronic-music activity. He is available for bookings through the Scientific Sound Asia DJ agency, while his weekly programme is broadcast through the station.
Marco Mei’s 2019 episode 21 radio show opens with Letherette’s Just For You on Wulf, establishing a direct House Music foundation. RedSoul featuring Jill Scott follows with the Red Soul edit of Summertime, before WAR featuring J.B. Boogie brings Crazy Face into the early run.
Squire’s Peacock Ritual and Common Sense, both on Mobilee Records, move the set towards Melodic House and Techno. Ben Watt’s Holding On then precedes Felipe Gordon’s Jimpster remix of Azucena Malagón on Papa Records, bringing the selection back to Deep House.
Ashley Beedle’s La Rumba Me Va leads into Dubplate Disco’s Yam Who edit of Pick Up, released through Midnight Riot. That edit introduces a brighter Nu-Disco passage before Billy Cobham featuring Novecento’s Emanuel Satie remix of The Vibe Inside adds another club-focused arrangement.
E.B.T.G featuring ODE’s A9E4FF appears before Dave Brubeck’s B.C. edit of Take 5, bringing a recognisable jazz reference into the sequence. Fatima and Jerome Sydenham then feature with Fade on BBE Music, ahead of Nina Kraviz’s Stranno Neobjatno on Trip Recordings and its raw, deep and hypnotic Techno (Raw / Deep / Hypnotic) character.
Enzo Avitabile’s Leo Mas, Fabrice and Gemolotto remix of Devozioni Dialettali follows Nina Kraviz, then Lil Yachty featuring Lil Baby appears in the Martinez Brothers re-edit of SaintLaurentYSL. DJ Deeon’s Shake What Your Momma Gave Ya on Databass Records shifts the late section into Bass / Club territory.
DJ Haus follows with the DJ Boneyard remix of Too Much Data on Dance Trax, adding Peak Time Techno pressure near the close. DJ Dero’s Groovebird and BBE’s Revision 2 complete the programme with a final change of pace after its movement through house-rooted and techno-focused material.
