Marco Mei presents his 2019 Show 10 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, a promoter of events, and a music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
The Italian DJ and producer began DJing in Turin in 1991, during the formative years of the city’s underground House and Techno culture. His early activity connected him with the Urban People collective, which supported electronic music events in Turin.
Those formative years gave Mei experience across the Afrocentric and House-focused events that shaped his local scene. By the time of this 2019 programme, he had built nearly three decades of experience behind the decks and a broad understanding of club audiences.
A residency at Pacha in Sharm el-Sheikh marked an important point in his international work. He also appeared at venues including Woo Bar in Bali, The Mansion in Shanghai, Fuse in Brussels and The Observatory in Ho Chi Minh City.
His past appearances also included sets alongside Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Ralph Falcon, Harry “Choo Choo” Romero, Justin Berkmann, Funk D’Void and Sander Kleinenberg. These bookings placed his work in club settings across Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
In 2009, Mei formed Bicycle Corporation with Italian producer Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. The collaboration brought together Mei’s DJ experience and Ugliano’s production work.
Bicycle Corporation has issued more than fifty productions and remixes across Deep House, Tech House, French House and Techno. Its releases have appeared on labels including Alchemy, Miniatures, WL77, Suka and GrooveTraxx.
Based in Taipei, Mei works across a wider South East Asian network of clubs, events and electronic music activity. He is available for bookings through the Scientific Sound Asia DJ agency, while his weekly show is broadcast through the radio station.
DJ Marco Mei’s 2019 episode 10 on Scientific Sound Asia brings together House Music, Disco, Techno, Indie Dance, Progressive House and Soul through music by Tyree Cooper, Legowelt, Grace Jones, Curtis Mayfield, Moscoman, Edu Imbernon, Honey Dijon, Catz ’N Dogz, DJ Deeon, Underworld and St. David. Peter Panic opens with A Black Man, before Tyree Cooper’s I Want It Now on MFF (Music For Freaks) establishes the early House Music pulse and Legowelt’s Disco Rout on Cocoon Recordings adds a Techno edge ahead of Grace Jones’s Party Animal.
Chaney’s 39 Times keeps the opening club-focused before Curtis Mayfield contributes Check Out, the unreleased Soul reference in the selection. Richard Rossa’s Party Zone on Tom Tom Disco leads into K.I.D.’s Don’t Stop on SAM Records, bringing Nu-Disco into the sequence.
Moscoman’s Wave Rave on Life And Death introduces Indie Dance, giving the mix a different rhythmic shape before Edu Imbernon’s Starbuster on Bedrock Records moves towards Progressive House. Jane’s It’s A Fine Day in the Denis Horvat remix brings the section into Melodic House and Techno, extending the more atmospheric middle passage.
Benoit & Sergio’s Different Place on Culprit introduces Deep House before Furious’s I’m Not Defeated, Pt. II appears in Honey Dijon’s Undefeated Dub. Catz ’N Dogz follow with the Gerd Janson remix of New Love on Pets Recordings, returning the programme to House Music.
Boris Dlugosch and Cassara’s Traveller on Running Back returns to Indie Dance before The Martinez Brothers’ Stuff In The Trunk in DJ Deeon’s Trunk Junk remix brings in Tech House through Cuttin’ Headz. The Outhere Brothers then supply Pass The Toilet Paper on Unidisc Music, following DJ Deeon’s ghetto house reference with a direct House Music cut.
Yotam Avni and Catz ’N Dogz shift the late section into Techno with Open Door in the Bart Skils edit, before Underworld’s Born Slippy arrives in the Melokolektiv remix with a Progressive House direction. St. David’s Bouncin on Theory Of Swing Records returns the close to House Music, while Disco Tex ends episode 10 with I Need A House Party on Disco-Tex Records and a Disco connection that suits Mei’s weekly broadcast from Taipei and his wider South East Asian network.
