Jstar presented Control Tower 10 for Scientific Sound Asia, originally aired on 6 December 2018. Scientific Sound Asia operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music news outlet, connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Jstar is from London and has built a career of more than 20 years as a DJ, remixer and producer. His work centres on Reggae and Dub, with selections and productions that bring those styles into club and sound system contexts.
His standing as a selector and producer has drawn support from David Rodigan, Norman Jay and Grandmaster Flash. Those acknowledgements place his work in contact with artists and DJs from several strands of Black music culture.
The albums Stand To Order and Dub To Order form part of Jstar’s recorded catalogue. They add context to a career that moves between DJ sets, remixes and original productions.
Jstar has also promoted Reggae artists in developing territories including China, India and New Zealand. A tour of China took place before this programme and added to his international activity.
Control Tower provides a setting for Jstar’s broad approach to bass-led music, rather than restricting the programme to one format. This tenth instalment placed established vocal recordings, Dub material and later Drum and Bass cuts within the same selection.

Control Tower is Jstar’s programme for reggae, dub, dancehall, bass music and sound system culture. This archive episode links roots vocal material, dub versions, UK bass production and Jungle-led selections across a broad tracklist.
The Deltones open with I'll Take You There, followed by Mr Benn and Peppery on Know Themself. Nextmen and Gentleman’s Dub Club then feature Eva Lazarus and Gardna on Pristine, before Mungo's Hi Fi and Pupajim bring Prince Fatty’s remix of Bike Rider into the early section.
Robert Lee and Trilion move the programme into Dancehall with Love Me Stylee and Fuss Inna Dance. Mark Pritchard and Spikey Tee then add a Bass Music turn with Manabadman, before Morgan Heritage and Richie Spice return the selection to Reggae.
General Levy’s Most High Clean Heart appears in Ariwa style, connecting the mix to UK reggae and sound system culture. Sister Nancy follows with Only Woman DJ With Degree, before John Holt’s Up Park Camp and Johnny Clarke’s Up Park Camp Dub move the episode from vocal reggae into Dub.
Cocoa Tea and Sizzla bring the selection back to Jamaican vocal material with Young Lover and Give Them A Ride. Jstar’s Royal Busy Zion, Vin Gordon with Dubconductor on Horn Ah Plenty and Macka B’s Computer then build a dub and reggae section around horns, versions and message-led vocal work.
Seanie T’s Warning in the Suro remix shifts the episode towards Bass Music before Potential Badboy opens the Jungle section with Over My Head I Need A Roof. True Tactix, Deekline with Freestylers, Fleck, Aries and Rahmanee then move the centre of the set through Jungle, Breakbeat and UK sound system pressure.
T-Kay’s Bring The Bass keeps the heavier rhythm in place, before Daddy Freddy and Isaac Maya’s Original Jungle Sound VIP appears in the Marcus Visionary remix. Chopstick Dubplate and Mr. Williamz follow with All Over Town, while Erbman’s Junkyard Jungle keeps the episode close to Drum and Bass and Jungle.
Danny Scrilla’s Wipeout brings another Bass Music entry before Sizzla’s Cold War in the Om Unit remix shifts the late section into Drum and Bass. Taiwan MC and Gardna then return the sound to Dancehall influence with Believe It Or Not, keeping MC culture at the centre of the closing stretch.
Jstar Meets Max Rubadub and Crosby move the episode back into Dub with Dem Nah Ready, followed by Dread Lion, Mr Biska and Vibronics on Zion Kingdom in the Essential Dub Mix. Mark Solution and Ed Rieband then add Life Of Its Own, linking the final passages back to Reggae.
Jstar and Blackout JA’s All I Have appears in the Joe Revell remix before Jstar’s Babylon Children receives the Kabanjak remix treatment. Soom T’s I Thank The Dealer and Prince Jammy’s Interface close Control Tower 10 with Reggae and Dub at the core.
