Velvety Elements 324 on Scientific Sound Asia welcomes back DJ Joshua for another edition of his long-running House Music show. Scientific Sound Asia operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency and promoter, publishing music news while connecting underground artists and listeners across the region and internationally.
Based in Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has been involved with electronic music since the 1990s and developed his musical outlook through vinyl, cassettes, CDs and later digital formats. House Music has remained at the centre of that development even as his wider interests have moved through Techno, Drum and Bass, Chillout and other areas of electronic music.
That enduring connection with House shapes the identity of Velvety Elements, which concentrates on warmer, deeper and more soulful shades of the genre. Joshua favours smooth grooves, subtle movement and carefully paced selections rather than relying on immediate peak-time impact.
His involvement with Portugal's underground scene continued during quieter periods through event promotion, collaboration and support for other local artists. After stepping back from regular activity to concentrate on family life, his eventual return through Floating Beats re-established his presence in radio and created space for deeper musical exploration.
Velvety Elements developed from that same creative direction while giving House Music a dedicated place within his broadcasting. Each episode is constructed around flow and continuity, allowing Deep House, Soulful House and related styles to develop naturally across the programme.
Joshua's recent studio output under the Joshua Marian name has reflected the same warmer side of his musical identity. Soul Zone and Love My Soul on Bassment Tapes, together with Tengo Rojo and Restless Lips on 659 Records, move through Deep House and Soulful House territory.
How to Play Guitar on JFLM Recordings takes his production work towards Melodic House and Techno while retaining the careful arrangement heard across his broader catalogue. The two-track project Always on My Mind and I Can Go, You Can See on 14th Level Of Paradise extends the deeper side of his House production.
Joshua also uses the K Joshua alias for material that moves further into experimental and underground electronic territory. Promised Work on Kopoc, Stranger Things on dublucid and As You Are on Liberty Rhythm explore Hypnotic Techno, Dub Techno and Ambient influences alongside the more rhythm-focused work released under Joshua Marian.
These different aliases give him room to separate musical ideas without restricting his overall output to one sound. Joshua Marian carries much of the House-focused material, while K Joshua allows darker, more spacious and more experimental electronic influences to develop independently.
In 2024, Joshua launched JFLM Recordings as an independent outlet for his own productions and collaborative work. The label provides a dedicated platform for long-term artistic development while allowing him greater control over how new material is presented and released.
That studio activity feeds naturally back into his radio work because both are based around careful selection and gradual musical development. New productions can sit beside records from other artists while Velvety Elements remains focused on the deeper and more understated qualities of House Music.
DJ Joshua opens Velvety Elements 324 with Flabaire’s “Life Flow,” followed by Tony Lionni and Lars Behrenroth as the programme settles immediately into Deep House. “Believe In Miracles” and “Nothing” maintain that warm, understated character before Omid 16B’s “I Feel” broadens the rhythm with a more direct dance-floor approach.
Jose Vilches and Joselacruz return the selection to deep house with “Melodic Shadows” before Byron The Aquarius and Eddie Leader introduce a straighter House Music pulse. Manuel Kane’s “Come On” then brings the programme back towards the deeper groove that dominates the episode.
James Dexter’s “Lady” adds a stripped-back Deep Tech House turn before Harrison BDP’s “Cherry” restores the deeper house flow. The shift is subtle, keeping the set cohesive while giving the second half a slightly leaner rhythmic character.
Nico Cassou’s “Spoken Words” takes the programme into Deep Techno before DJ Central closes with “Blink.” Across Velvety Elements 324, deep house remains the clear foundation, supported by house, deep tech and a brief raw, hypnotic techno excursion near the finish.
