Scientific Sound Asia presents a new edition of Velvety Elements, hosted by Portuguese DJ and producer Joshua. In line with the station’s focus on underground culture, the series explores house music shaped by soul, groove and emotional depth, connecting artists and listeners across Asia and internationally through carefully curated online radio shows.

Based in Évora, Portugal, Joshua has been immersed in electronic music culture since the 1990s. His long-standing relationship with vinyl, cassettes, CDs and digital formats reflects decades of commitment to underground sound and DJ culture, developed through years of collecting, studying and performing.

Although his musical journey has moved through techno, drum and bass and chillout, house music has consistently remained central to his artistic identity. During quieter periods for Portugal’s underground movement, Joshua helped maintain its energy by organising events and working closely with fellow DJs and producers to support a strong and resilient creative network.

After stepping away from music to focus on family life, he returned with renewed direction through Floating Beats, a series recognised for its melodic and forward-thinking approach. Velvety Elements followed as a complementary project, dedicated to deeper, warmer and more soulful interpretations of house music.

Working under multiple aliases including K Joshua, Joshua Marian, Joshua Fernand and Joshua Onairam, he continues to explore different creative dimensions. Each name represents a distinct aspect of his sound, from groove-led minimal structures to emotionally centred melodic work.

In 2024, Joshua launched JFLM Recordings, a label established to release his own productions while supporting underground artists committed to musical integrity and depth. The imprint has since developed into a platform for his evolving studio output and collaborative projects.

Under the Joshua Marian alias, the 2024 Nobody Waiting For Me EP on Back to the Beat featured the title track Nobody Waiting For Me alongside I Love You, both grounded in classic house foundations. Subsequent releases such as Just Love and Chance With Soul further expanded this direction, blending rhythmic drive with subtle melodic detail.

In 2025, his K Joshua single Light of Faith presented a more introspective tone, combining deep house rhythms with melodic phrasing that balances reflection and forward movement. Through Velvety Elements, Joshua continues to articulate his musical identity, with each episode unfolding as a fluid and carefully shaped journey that respects the enduring character of house music.

Velvety Elements 305 begins with a warm Deep House introduction as Disappear sets a smooth tone before Can't Stop in Hipp-E’s Deep Tissue Rub brings a groove-led House rhythm. Critical Feelings and Rouffff deepen the mood with flowing basslines and subtle melodic layers that reinforce the laid-back club atmosphere.

The middle section continues with When Vibe Comes In and Deep In This, where classic House swing meets deeper underground textures. Rick Wade’s After the Party adds a soulful late-night feel, while Heaven On Earth in the Instadub version keeps the groove steady with stripped percussion and atmospheric chords.

Energy tightens slightly with UAUA, introducing a Tech House edge that briefly shifts the rhythm toward a more driving club structure. Steve Bug’s Keep Movin’ returns the mix to a steady House groove, maintaining the session’s warm and flowing character.

The closing section settles into deeper territory once more. Stuck In The Wash brings Minimal and Deep Tech textures before Joe's Groove rounds out the episode with classic House rhythm and understated warmth. Episode 305 stays true to the Velvety Elements style, delivering a consistent blend of Deep House and House built around groove and subtle musical progression.
