Floating Beats 762 welcomes back DJ Joshua for another edition of his long-running electronic music series on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music news platform, connecting underground artists and listeners across the region and internationally.
Based in Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has been involved with electronic music since the mid-1990s, developing his knowledge through vinyl, cassettes, CDs and later digital formats. His background reaches across House, Techno, Drum and Bass and Chillout, providing a broad musical foundation built over several decades.
Joshua's early involvement included DJing, record collecting, local radio and participation in Portugal's developing rave scene. He also remained active through event organisation, collaboration and support for local artists before stepping away from regular activity to concentrate on family life.
His eventual return led to Floating Beats, which became an outlet for deeper, progressive and hypnotic underground electronic music. Joshua builds each edition around atmosphere and controlled progression, allowing individual tracks space to develop without relying on abrupt changes or constant peak-time intensity.
Alongside broadcasting, Joshua produces under several aliases that allow different areas of his studio work to develop independently. Each project represents another part of the musical perspective he has built through years of collecting, DJing, radio and production.
As Joshua Fernand, he concentrates largely on contemporary Techno and tougher club-focused material. Releases include Blue River on MixCult Digital alongside Breaking Rocks and Tearing Metal through his own JFLM Recordings.
Closed Door and Open Door on Radickal Records explore darker and more hypnotic territory through repetition, tension and stripped-back rhythmic structures. Killer's Plan on Rice Bowl Recordings introduces a more melodic direction, connecting his harder productions with the atmospheric ideas found elsewhere in his work.
The Joshua Marian alias carries much of his warmer and more soulful output, placing greater emphasis on groove, melody and smoother rhythmic development. Releases include Soul Zone, Love My Soul, Tengo Rojo, Restless Lips, Always on My Mind and I Can Go, You Can See.
K Joshua provides space for more abstract, hypnotic and experimental material, with dub-influenced textures and more spacious arrangements forming part of the project. Promised Work on Kopoc, Stranger Things on dublucid, As You Are on Liberty Rhythm and Slow Laziness on Ghetto Rhythms Records illustrate that deeper side of his catalogue.
Working through several identities gives Joshua room to explore contrasting ideas without forcing every production into the same direction. Joshua Fernand carries much of the tougher club material, Joshua Marian represents the warmer and more melodic side of his work, while K Joshua provides an outlet for deeper and more experimental productions.
In 2024, Joshua launched JFLM Recordings as an independent outlet for his productions and collaborative projects. The label gives him greater control over how new material is presented while providing a dedicated home for music connected with the different sides of his studio work.
That production activity feeds naturally back into his broadcasting and broadens the perspective behind Floating Beats. Episode 762 continues the series with carefully paced underground electronic music shaped by decades of listening and Joshua's continuing interest in new records, production techniques and ideas.
DJ Joshua opens Floating Beats 762 with Luigi Tozzi's Plastic Venus, immediately placing the set within the raw, deep and hypnotic side of Techno. Carara's Tool 001 and Kushkusshhh's Spinal Tension then increase the pressure with two Peak Time Techno selections, creating an early contrast between depth and driving club energy.
Alinep's Petmalu and DJ Dextro's Disclosure of Who We Are return the mix to a deeper hypnotic pulse, allowing rhythm and repetition to take precedence over dramatic melodic changes. Louis The 4th then introduces the episode's only Electronica selection with Archive 5, providing a short electronic diversion before the techno pressure resumes.
Carara returns with Harpalyke and Drewtech follows with Oscillation, pushing the programme back towards driving peak-time territory. Dhaeur's Sense of Space then brings the sound down into Deep Techno, using a more restrained and hypnotic approach to bridge the tougher middle section with the closing run.
DC11's Stuck in The Overhead supplies the final peak-time surge before Klint's Game Theory shifts the emphasis back towards raw and deeper Techno. Rheak continues that direction with Intrusion, maintaining the stripped-back tension and repetitive drive that shape much of the episode.
Carara closes the session with Endless 003 on Gynoid Audio, completing his third appearance in an episode that balances forceful peak-time material against a larger body of raw, deep and hypnotic Techno. The ending brings the mix back to the deeper character established by Luigi Tozzi at the start rather than finishing at maximum intensity.
Across Floating Beats 762, DJ Joshua builds almost the entire programme around two complementary forms of Techno, with seven raw, deep and hypnotic selections set against five peak-time and driving tracks. Louis The 4th provides the sole stylistic departure, making this one of the more tightly focused recent editions of Floating Beats.
