Floating Beats 760 welcomes back DJ Joshua for another edition of his long-running electronic music show on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music news platform, connecting underground artists and listeners across the region and internationally.
Based in Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has been involved with electronic music since the mid-1990s, developing his knowledge through vinyl, cassettes, CDs and later digital formats. His wider background encompasses House, Techno, Drum and Bass and Chillout, giving his work a broad musical foundation built over several decades.
Joshua’s early involvement included DJing, record collecting, local radio and participation in Portugal’s developing rave scene. He also remained connected through event organisation, collaboration and support for local artists before stepping away from regular activity to concentrate on family life.
His eventual return led to Floating Beats, which developed into an outlet for deeper, progressive and hypnotic underground electronic music. Joshua approaches each edition through atmosphere and controlled progression, allowing tracks to develop naturally rather than relying on abrupt changes or constant peak-time pressure.
Alongside broadcasting, Joshua produces under several aliases that give different areas of his studio work room to develop independently. Each project reflects another side of the musical interests accumulated through years of collecting, DJing, radio and production.
As Joshua Fernand, he concentrates primarily on contemporary Techno and more club-focused material. Releases include Blue River on MixCult Digital and Breaking Rocks and Tearing Metal through his own JFLM Recordings.
Closed Door and Open Door on Radickal Records explore darker and more hypnotic territory through repetition, tension and stripped-back rhythmic structures. Killer’s Plan on Rice Bowl Recordings introduces a more melodic direction, connecting his tougher productions with the atmospheric ideas heard elsewhere in his work.
The Joshua Marian alias carries much of his warmer and more soulful production output. Releases including Soul Zone, Love My Soul, Tengo Rojo, Restless Lips, Always on My Mind and I Can Go, You Can See place greater emphasis on groove, melody and smoother rhythmic development.
K Joshua provides space for his more abstract, hypnotic and experimental ideas. Promised Work on Kopoc, Stranger Things on dublucid, As You Are on Liberty Rhythm and Slow Laziness on Ghetto Rhythms Records explore deeper textures and more spacious electronic arrangements.
Working through several identities allows Joshua to explore contrasting ideas without forcing every production into a single musical direction. Joshua Fernand carries much of the tougher club material, Joshua Marian represents his warmer side, while K Joshua gives him room for deeper and more experimental work.
In 2024, Joshua launched JFLM Recordings as an independent outlet for his productions and collaborative projects. The label gives him greater control over how new material is presented while providing a dedicated home for music connected with the different sides of his studio work.
That production activity now feeds naturally back into his broadcasting and expands the perspective behind Floating Beats. Episode 760 continues the series with carefully paced underground electronic music shaped by decades of listening and Joshua’s continuing interest in new records, production techniques and ideas.
DJ Joshua opens Floating Beats 760 with Dunes Of Dawn's "If I Could See The Future", immediately setting a raw, deep and hypnotic Techno direction. Demuja's "EMX JAM 2" and Mattias El Mansouri's "Disintegration" then bring Deep House into the mix, providing a warmer groove before the set turns back towards darker electronic territory.
Ian O'Donovan restores the hypnotic Techno thread with "Pulpo" before Joshua Onairam's "Sweet Freedom" introduces Progressive House to the session. Rolando's "B Friend" follows with another raw and deep Techno selection, tightening the rhythm before E-Dancer's "Cosmic Drive" adds the more melodic character of Melodic House and Techno.
S-File's "Bleaching" raises the intensity through peak-time driving Techno, with Nobuharu Morimoto's "Hina Matsuri" extending that tougher section of the set. P.I.M.P.'s "The Light" then provides the programme's sole House Music selection, breaking up the heavier run with a more direct house groove.
DCLVIII OFC returns to Melodic House and Techno with "Fusion" before Nick Stoynoff's remix of Aubrey Fry's "Begone" closes the episode in Progressive House territory. Across Floating Beats 760, DJ Joshua balances raw and driving Techno with Deep House, Progressive House and melodic material, creating a set that develops from hypnotic depth into stronger peak-time energy before easing back into a progressive finish.
