Floating Beats 759 welcomes back DJ Joshua for another edition of his long-running electronic music show on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music news platform, connecting underground artists and listeners across the region and internationally.
Born in Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has been involved with electronic music since the mid-1990s, developing his knowledge through vinyl, cassettes, CDs and later digital formats. His wider background includes House, Techno, Drum and Bass and Chillout, giving his selections a broad foundation built over several decades.
Even during quieter periods for Portugal’s underground scene, Joshua remained connected through event organisation, collaboration and support for local artists. After stepping away from regular DJing to concentrate on family life, he eventually returned through Floating Beats and gradually rebuilt his presence in radio.
The programme has since become an outlet for deeper, progressive and underground electronic music. Joshua approaches each episode through atmosphere and controlled progression, allowing individual tracks to develop naturally rather than relying on abrupt changes or constant peak-time pressure.
Alongside broadcasting, Joshua produces under several aliases that give different areas of his studio work room to develop independently. As Joshua Fernand, he concentrates primarily on contemporary Techno, with releases including Blue River on MixCult Digital and Breaking Rocks and Tearing Metal through his own JFLM Recordings.
Closed Door and Open Door on Radickal Records move the Joshua Fernand project into darker and more hypnotic territory. Repetition, tension and stripped-back rhythmic structures give those tracks a distinct identity within his wider catalogue.
Killer’s Plan on Rice Bowl Recordings introduces a more melodic side of the same alias through layered synth work and deeper club structures. The track creates a bridge between his tougher productions and the more atmospheric material often heard in his radio selections.
The Joshua Marian alias carries much of his warmer and more soulful production work, with releases including Just Love, Express Your Voice and Go Slow. Material under that name has appeared through labels such as Yesenia, Jazz In Da House, Agua Salada Records and Wanda, drawing on melody, groove and a softer rhythmic approach.
K Joshua moves further towards raw, hypnotic and experimental electronic music. Promised Work on Kopoc, Stranger Things on dublucid and Slow Laziness on Ghetto Rhythms Records explore deeper textures, Dub Techno and Ambient influences.
Using several aliases gives Joshua room to explore contrasting ideas without forcing every release into one musical identity. Joshua Fernand carries much of the tougher club material, Joshua Marian focuses on warmer productions, while K Joshua provides space for more abstract and atmospheric directions.
In 2024, Joshua launched JFLM Recordings as an independent outlet for his productions and collaborative projects. The label gives him greater control over how new material is released while providing a dedicated home for music connected with the different sides of his studio work.
Floating Beats 759 continues that wider creative direction, bringing together the experience Joshua has built through DJing, production, radio and label work. The series remains a space for carefully paced underground electronic music shaped by decades of listening and an ongoing interest in new ideas.
DJ Joshua opens Floating Beats 759 with Karol XVII & MB Valence, introducing a warmer Deep House texture before Summer aka Brendon Collins and Mononoid move the mix into harder territory. Alessio Frino’s remix of “Useppa” and “Protoplasm” establish the first strong Techno sequence with a driving, peak-time emphasis.
Kasey Taylor’s remix of Ricky Ryan then shifts the set towards Progressive House, balancing the earlier pressure with a deeper melodic framework. Pablo Acenso follows with Sezer Uysal’s hypnotic remix of “Stop Thinking”, bringing Tech House into the progression before Ryan Davis returns the mix to a more direct techno pulse.
Federico Epis and A. Balter increase the intensity again with “The End”, followed by Tom Glass and DAVI restoring a progressive character through “Mistakes” and “Labyrinth”. This middle section gives the episode a clear push-and-pull between driving techno and deeper progressive material rather than locking the set into one continuous style.
Cari Lekebusch’s “Slajdmedel” brings the harder rhythmic emphasis back before Hernan Cattaneo and Soundexile reshape Martin Morning with Mattia Cunico into another detailed Tech House passage. Beroshima then closes the programme with Hawkinson’s remix of “Cosmic Flight”, ending the set on a final peak-time techno statement.
Across Episode 759, DJ Joshua blends Peak Time Techno, Progressive House, Tech House and Deep House in a tightly structured sequence built around contrast and gradual changes in pressure. The result is a set that repeatedly switches between melodic depth and harder club momentum while keeping its underground identity intact.
