Bicycle Corporations’ Foundations 73 features DJ Jasmine Li.
This week's Foundations features Chinese DJ and producer Jasmine Li.
Organic House developed during the 2010s from the overlap between Deep House, Downtempo, Progressive House and melodic electronic music. The style combines steady House rhythms with acoustic instrumentation, natural percussion and influences drawn from regional musical traditions.
Its foundations trace back to earlier Balearic, tribal, world-influenced and ambient forms of House. Producers later brought these ideas into slower club tracks built around hand drums, strings, flutes, guitars, vocal fragments and warm electronic basslines.
Artists and labels associated with scenes in Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and other regions helped establish the sound internationally. The music often incorporates instruments and rhythmic ideas from different cultures while using modern electronic production and extended DJ-friendly arrangements.
Organic House commonly features four-to-the-floor drums, layered percussion, melodic chord progressions and spacious sound design. Some tracks sit close to Downtempo or Afro House, while others move toward Progressive House and Melodic House and Techno.
The category became more visible through digital platforms, festivals, open-air events and specialist labels through the late 2010s and 2020s. Its slower pace and acoustic detail made it particularly suited to sunset sets, warm-up sessions and longer melodic performances.
Organic House is best understood as a broad crossover category, rather than one fixed regional style. It covers House Music that combines electronic rhythm with acoustic textures, global instrumentation and a softer, more natural production character.
At Scientific Sound Asia, organic house is a defining feature of After Hours, with further appearances on Inve and Esta La Musica.
