Scientific Sound Asia presented the fifth edition of Our House at Lô 49 in Thảo Điền, bringing the series back after a lengthy interruption to regular nightlife during the global pandemic. The event marked a fresh phase for the House Music night, with a new venue, familiar selectors and a programme centred on Deep House, Tech House and underground club sounds.

The fifth edition followed earlier Our House events at Nymphes, The Lab - Shots & More and Arcan, but the circumstances surrounding this return were very different. Pandemic disruption had interrupted events and eventually the closure of Arcan removed one of the underground venues closely associated with the series.

Lô 49 was a new venue in Thảo Điền at the time and gave Our House another place to continue after that break. Rather than trying to reinvent the concept, Scientific Sound Asia returned to the foundation of the series with upfront House Music, regular DJs and a straightforward dancefloor format.

Entry was priced at 50,000 VND, keeping the event accessible while supporting the return of independent club activity. The line-up featured Determined, Coh-hul, DJ Psycho-UK and Yariuss, bringing together DJs already connected with Scientific Sound Asia, Arcan and Ho Chi Minh City’s underground electronic music community.

Deep House and Tech House formed the principal musical foundations of the night. Those styles allowed the programme to move between warmer melodic material, rolling grooves, stronger basslines and more direct late-night club records without losing the House Music identity of the series.

Determined returned to the decks after a long break following the closure of Arcan, bringing what the original promotion described as glittering House vibes. His appearance provided a bright, groove-led opening to an edition that was itself built around returning to familiar musical territory after an extended period away.

The break had changed the surroundings, but Determined’s role helped retain a connection with the community that had developed around earlier Arcan nights. Moving those familiar selectors into Lô 49 allowed the event to acknowledge its previous home without attempting to recreate it exactly.

Coh-hul brought funky and melodic tones over pounding, groove-driven basslines, giving the fifth edition another distinct interpretation of House Music. His selections combined musical warmth with enough rhythmic weight to keep the dancefloor moving as the event developed.

The long interruption had also given Coh-hul time to collect new material away from the normal cycle of regular gigs. Returning to a working sound system meant those records could finally move from private listening and preparation into the environment for which they had been selected.

That element of discovery was particularly relevant after such a long break because DJs had continued finding music even while conventional nightlife was disrupted. Our House 5 therefore provided an opportunity for selectors to bring accumulated releases and new favourites back into contact with an audience.

DJ Psycho-UK represented Scientific Sound Asia and arrived with promos and fresh cuts for the returning series. As head of the organisation, his set also connected the event directly with Scientific Sound Asia’s wider activity across radio broadcasting, artist representation and underground music promotion.

His musical history reaches through Hip Hop, Acid House, Hardcore, Jungle, Drum and Bass and several generations of House Music. Within Our House, however, the emphasis remained on the deeper and more tech-led side of his collection rather than the broader multi-genre selections associated with some of his other appearances.

House had been part of DJ Psycho-UK’s musical background since the late 1980s, when the style and subsequent Acid House movement transformed British underground nightlife. The Our House series offered a dedicated setting in which that part of his collection could take priority over the Jungle, Drum and Bass and Hip Hop heard elsewhere in his DJ work.

His role also linked the physical event with Scientific Sound Asia Radio, where House and its related styles have remained part of the wider broadcast schedule. Scientific Sound Asia currently operates as an underground electronic music radio station, DJ agency and events promoter from Ho Chi Minh City, with House among the genres represented in its programming.

Yariuss returned as another familiar name from the Arcan period and brought his reputation for moving comfortably across different areas of underground electronic music. The Russian selector, also known as Yaroslav Kuchin, had previously been a resident at Arcan and appeared regularly through the network of events surrounding the venue.

His contribution to the fifth edition gave Lô 49 another direct connection with those earlier nights. Rather than restricting himself to a single narrow interpretation of House, Yariuss could move through related styles while maintaining the late-night flow of the programme.

That flexibility had already made him a useful presence on varied Arcan line-ups where House and Techno frequently crossed paths. At Our House, the broader range could be channelled into a programme whose central requirement was still groove-led underground club music.

Determined, Coh-hul, DJ Psycho-UK and Yariuss therefore represented continuity as much as a new beginning. The venue had changed and the nightlife environment had been heavily disrupted, but the selectors behind the decks came from a community already established through previous Scientific Sound Asia and Arcan events.

The fifth edition also demonstrated why recurring local line-ups mattered to a series such as Our House. International bookings could provide occasional headline events, but residents and locally based selectors were essential for creating a recognisable night that could continue from one edition to the next.

Lô 49 gave that returning community a new underground setting in Thảo Điền after Arcan disappeared from the nightlife landscape. The move placed Our House in an area that had already hosted other Scientific Sound Asia concepts and had developed its own network of bars, clubs and independent event spaces.

The relatively modest 50,000 VND entry price matched the uncomplicated nature of the event. Our House was built around the DJs and the records rather than an expensive production, keeping attention on the music and making the night accessible to regular local listeners.

The pandemic break inevitably gave this edition a different significance from the earlier events. Getting back onto a dancefloor, hearing a proper sound system and seeing familiar DJs again carried greater weight after the repeated interruption of normal club activity.

The event was therefore not presented as the beginning of an entirely new series but as the return of something already established. Our House resumed with the same emphasis on underground House Music while adjusting to a changed venue landscape in Ho Chi Minh City.

Scientific Sound Asia’s wider history around these events remains connected through its current events, radio station, DJ agency and music news sections. A later Our House event in 2024 still used the same core formula of House, Deep House, Tech House, local selectors and affordable entry, showing that the concept continued well beyond the Lô 49 period.

The fifth edition consequently sits at an important point in the history of the series, linking its earlier Arcan period with the events that followed. Determined and Yariuss brought familiar connections with the former venue, Coh-hul returned with a collection of new music, and DJ Psycho-UK maintained the direct Scientific Sound Asia link at the centre of the night.

Lô 49 has since closed, adding another former venue to the archive of spaces that supported underground electronic music in Thảo Điền. Preserving Our House 5 documents how Scientific Sound Asia and its regular DJs adapted after pandemic disruption and the loss of Arcan rather than allowing the series to disappear with its previous home.

Our House – 5th Edition was ultimately a return to the simple ingredients that had always defined the concept. Deep House, Tech House, fresh records and familiar selectors brought the grooves back, while Lô 49 gave Determined, Coh-hul, DJ Psycho-UK and Yariuss a new dancefloor on which to restart the series.
