El Brujo launches Work In Progress episode 1 on Scientific Sound Asia with guest DJ Chris van Deer. Scientific Sound Asia operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music news platform serving listeners across the region and internationally.
El Brujo, whose real name is Robert Milanesi, was born in Italy in 1964 and developed a strong connection with music from an early age. By the 1990s, he had become closely involved with Bologna's underground rave scene, where his work as a DJ helped establish the foundations for a career that later expanded into production and label management.
His first official release, Warriors, appeared in 2008 through Milan label Open Legs. That release marked the beginning of a growing production catalogue spanning Techno, House and other areas of underground electronic music.
In 2010, El Brujo launched Jambalay Records, with the label introduced through an opening party at Club Geminis in Ibiza. The imprint became the central platform for much of his subsequent production activity while also providing an outlet for other electronic music artists.
Jambalay Records gained wider international attention as its catalogue began reaching DJs outside Italy. Early support included Maya Jane Coles, who charted material connected with the label in 2011, helping introduce the project to a broader electronic music audience.
El Brujo's collaboration with Big Mojo on The Way to Mozambique became another important part of his catalogue. The track also featured on the physical CD release Nutty Fellas Are Go, extending his work beyond digital-only distribution.
His production activity has since included releases through labels such as Elektrax, Frame Workxx, LW Recordings, Subwoofer and numerous independent electronic music imprints. This broad catalogue has allowed him to move between different interpretations of Techno and House while maintaining a strong focus on underground club music.
In January 2019, his track Plastic Dreams, released through Frame Workxx, reached number 33 on Beatport's Hard Techno Top 100. The placement added another international chart result to a catalogue that had continued expanding steadily over the previous decade.
Further recognition arrived in 2022 when DJ Rush charted El Brujo's music, while Shit Happens reached number ten on Beatport's Jackin House Top 100. These results demonstrated the range within his production work and showed that his releases continued to reach DJs across different areas of electronic music.
Work In Progress gives El Brujo a new platform to present material that is still being developed alongside finished productions and selections from his wider collection. Each month, the programme will also introduce a guest DJ drawn from the network of producers and artists connected with his work.
For the first edition, El Brujo presents music from his own studio development before handing the guest section to Chris van Deer. The format gives listeners an opportunity to hear ideas at different stages of production while connecting those works in progress with artists from the wider international Techno community.
Guest DJ Chris van Deer (second hour)
This show's second-hour guest is Chris van Deer, a German DJ and producer from Bavaria whose work centres on Techno, Hard Techno, Progressive Techno and Dark Techno. His career began in 2000, and over the years he has performed at events across Germany and Austria while developing a sound built around darker atmospheres, driving rhythms and club-focused energy.
Chris has remained active both behind the decks and in the studio, with his recorded work available through SoundCloud. His sets reflect the same direct approach as his productions, moving between harder Techno pressure and more progressive structures without losing the momentum of the dancefloor.
His Beatport catalogue includes releases through labels such as Let's Techno Records, Frame Workxx Records, Subwoofer Records and other underground electronic imprints. That output has given him a steady presence within the independent Techno scene alongside his regular DJ appearances.
Radio has also become an important part of his activity, with resident slots on international stations including Fnoob Techno, Techno Connection and Militia Underground. These programmes allow him to present current promos, new releases and material from across the harder and darker sides of electronic music.
His return as a guest on Work In Progress brings that experience into the second hour of the show. Chris van Deer uses the session to showcase current music from his collection while continuing the programme's focus on producers and DJs connected with the international underground Techno community.
El Brujo opens the first hour of Work In Progress Episode 1 entirely around his own production work, moving through the darker edges of Techno with tracks including "I Don’t Feel The Difference", "Battlefield", "Love Me Alien" and "Madame Fong". The sequence establishes the uncompromising character of the programme early, balancing forceful club material with the more abrasive and shadowy qualities associated with Dark Techno.
Three pieces from El Brujo's Experimental Drone series interrupt that rhythmic pressure with a more abstract Experimental approach, giving the first hour room to move beyond conventional dancefloor structures. "Break The Rules", "Gates Of Jumanji", "Mechanism" and the Makaja Gonzales collaboration "Imagination" then return the set to heavier territory before "Shooting Palomas" and "Experimental Drone 1" complete a distinctly personal first hour.
Chris van Deer begins the second hour with "Schein" before Lucid Aberration, DJ D ReDD and the Cristian Arango remix of Surface Freakz and Mojo K push the programme towards the more forceful drive of Peak Time Techno. His own productions appear repeatedly throughout the hour, with "Moist Precious Diamond", "Weck Neck", "Maschi Run" and "Push Up" giving the guest section a strong connection to his studio work while MarAxe, Tawa Girl and Makaja Gonzales maintain the relentless underground momentum.
The final run grows tougher through Rhate's "Painkiller" in the Hefty remix, Miss ADK's "Beyond Limits" and tracks from Frank Antenucci, Frank van Missing and Shell Lenktzki, placing Hard Techno firmly within the closing stretch. Chris van Deer finishes with "Screws Pot" on Frame Workxx, completing two hours that move between dark, hard and driving techno while El Brujo's drone experiments give the debut episode a more abrasive and exploratory identity.
