DJ Joshua presents the track lists for his Floating Beats and Velvety Elements programmes on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
DJ Joshua, whose real name is Joshua Mar, is a Portuguese electronic-music connoisseur with a substantial music library and a distinctive presence as a disc jockey. Growing up in his home city of Evora, he developed an interest in gathering electronic music that became an obsession, exploring styles from House and Drum and Bass to Chill-out, with Techno at the forefront of his fascination.
Like many teenagers who grew up in the early nineties, he learned to DJ, became a vinyl digger, shared the birth of rave music and culture on local radio shows, and played at events organised with friends and fellow ravers. As his electronic obsession grew, Portugal's rave scene was beginning to bear fruit and he recognised the need for ravers in his community to have a media presence for electronic genres on local airwaves.
After the birth of his first child, Joshua took time away from music to focus on fatherhood. When his child was older, he returned to his primary interest by starting a new radio show, and Floating Beats was born.
His Floating Beats and Velvety Elements podcast is transmitted on many online radio stations across the planet. Joshua describes the show in his own words: 'Music is an art form. Is the fusion of elements that can convey emotions and make the body move. This is a place where you hear sounds that can float and end up falling onto your body, enjoy it'.
Across his weekly programmes, Joshua presents House Music and Techno genres including Deep House, Tech House, Melodic House, Detroit House, Soulful House, Progressive House and Vocal House. The programmes also encompass Melodic Techno and Techno, drawing on the breadth of styles that has interested him since his early years as a collector.

Floating Beats opens with Javonntte's Xtasy (Late Night) on Calls and Puts, setting out a House Music foundation. Boo Williams follows with Digital Extensions on Rawax, keeping the opening focused on club-ready rhythm.
Jon Hester's Onward on Transmat brings in Peak Time Techno before Ian Pooley's 303 (2 Bars) on Rekids returns the programme to House Music. Al-Faris and Andrew Wooden's Legion on DrizzlyMusic and David Duriez's New York Ne Repond Plus on Metrohm extend that early house-focused run.
S-File's Hope Solo on UNCAGE shifts the first hour into raw, deep and hypnotic Techno. Ian O'Donovan and Luca Gaeta's Lost Light on 100% Pure adds another Peak Time Techno cut, while Vladimir Dubyshkin's Customs & Traditions on Trip Recordings keeps the darker focus in place.
Queer On Acid's Houseum on Ovum Recordings holds the reduced Techno character through the final part of Floating Beats. The Golden Boy closes this section with The Attacker on Under No Illusion, introducing a concise Tech House turn.
Velvety Elements begins with Andy Kneale's Kolshi remix of Into The Light on LW Recordings, opening the second programme with Techno. Fred P's In The Mood on Kwench Records then moves into Deep Tech House, before Future Kings of House SA's Real Scene on Batavia Records brings in Deep House.
Yen Sung and Photonz's Still on Alphabet Street Music restores a house-led feel to the middle of Velvety Elements. Chris Stussy's Constant Time on Berg Audio follows with another Deep Tech House selection.
Platzdasch and Dix's Morning Chat on Personal Belongings, Nick Maurer and Deeplomatik's On My Mind on No Fuss Records, and Rogerio Martins' BNinjas remix of Vale on Piston Recordings sustain the deeper house section. Jason Hodges and Vincent Caira then add Just Do You on Robsoul Recordings, giving the programme a Funky House lift.
Luca Donzelli's Crispy on likeminded and Traumer's Diplo on Adam's Bite return the closing stretch to Deep Tech House. DJ Tennis ends Velvety Elements with Atlanta on CircoLoco Records, finishing on a direct House Music note.
