DJ Joshua shares track lists for new shows

DJ Joshua published track lists for his weekly Floating Beats and Velvety Elements programmes on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.

DJ Joshua, whose real name is Joshua Mar, is a Portuguese DJ and electronic-music collector with a large library built around a wide range of styles. Growing up in his home city of Evora, he developed an interest in collecting electronic music that became an obsession, spanning House, Drum and Bass, Chill-out and Techno.

Like many teenagers who came of age in the early 1990s, he learnt to DJ, became a vinyl digger and experienced the emergence of rave music and its culture. He shared music on local radio and played at events organised with friends and fellow ravers.

As his electronic obsession grew, Portugal's rave scene was beginning to establish itself and he saw a need for local radio to give electronic music a stronger presence. His involvement supported ravers in his community while he explored the music's different forms.

Shortly after the birth of his first child, Joshua stepped away from DJing to focus on fatherhood. When his child was older, he returned to music and started a new radio show, from which Floating Beats was born.

Floating Beats and Velvety Elements have been transmitted by online radio stations in different parts of the world. Joshua describes the purpose of the shows in his own words: "Music is an art form. Is the fusion of elements that can convey emotions and make the body move. This is a place where you hear sounds that can float and end up falling onto your body, enjoy it."

Across the weekly programmes, Joshua presents House Music and Techno in forms that include Deep House, Tech House, Melodic House, Detroit House, Soulful House, Progressive House, Vocal House and Melodic Techno. The two shows give him space to explore both the deeper side of House Music and more direct Techno selections.

Floating Beats opens the documented selection with Alkalino's Ice Cold on Audaz, bringing in Deep House before Atlaxsys's Reset Robot remix of 1994 on Pysch raises the intensity through Peak Time Techno. Claudio Sacchelli then places Balcony from Introspection Recordings in a leaner framework.

Sacchelli's Balcony introduces Minimal space before Carlo Lio and Nathan Barato's Steven Taylor remix of Mainframe on Rawthentic Music moves towards Tech House. Deetron's V-NRG on Nu Groove Records restores a club-focused House Music pulse.

James Ruskin and Mark Broom's Twister on Blueprint Records takes Floating Beats into Techno (Raw / Deep / Hypnotic), with a reduced, focused feel. Jeff Mills follows with In The Bush on React, using Tech House to keep the rhythm firm without losing the stripped character.

Claudio Sacchelli returns with Matcha on City Noises, bringing Peak Time Techno back into the later section. Ian Pooley's 303 (2 Bars) on Rekids provides a House Music contrast before DJ Hyperactive's Mari Mattham and Ricardo Garduno remix of Soul on Illegal Alien Records moves into Techno.

Velvety Elements is presented as the companion weekly programme to Floating Beats, giving Joshua a second setting for his House Music and Techno selection. Its place beside the more underground-oriented Floating Beats format underlines the breadth of his long-standing record collection.

The programme's stated scope includes deeper House styles alongside Tech House, melodic forms and soulful material. That range follows Joshua's early interest in exploring electronic music beyond a single club format.

Velvety Elements also accommodates Detroit House, Progressive House and Vocal House within its weekly direction. These strands sit alongside the Techno material that has been central to Joshua's musical interests since his youth in Evora.

Together, the two programmes preserve a format built on record collecting, radio and the local rave culture that shaped Joshua's early years. Floating Beats supplies the documented progression from Deep House through Minimal, Tech House and Techno, while Velvety Elements gives the broader House-focused side of that practice its own space.
