Bicycle Corporation's guest DJ Otherkind presents Foundations 6 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency and promoter, as well as a music-news platform connecting audiences across the region and internationally.
Bicycle Corporation is an Italian duo formed by DJ and producer Marco Mei alongside Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. In the early nineties, Marco began his musical work as a DJ and producer, establishing events under the collective name Urban People.
Urban People's parties spanned Italy and earned Marco significant recognition, leading to a residency at Pacha. This, in turn, opened the door to international bookings and set him on a global musical path.
Raised in Torino, Italy, Stefano showed musical ability from a young age, studying classical piano, percussion and drums with dedication. He loved the compositions of Chopin and the earthy pulse of West African djembe, yet the sight of a DJ controlling a crowd became increasingly magnetic to the teenage Stefano.
He began to wonder whether those electronic rhythms, so difficult to find on 1990s Italian radio, might lead him into an entirely new chapter. From that curiosity, Bicycle Corporation was born.
The duo have revisited their earliest productions and launched a Bandcamp page to share and distribute those first works with a new audience. The page makes material from Bicycle Corporation's early period accessible again.

This week's guest DJ is Otherkind. Born in Iran and now based in Kuala Lumpur, he has become one of the defining figures in Malaysia’s underground scene. As a long-standing resident of KL’s influential night The Sweatbox, he brings a level of versatility and control that has made him a trusted name for opening, peak-time and late-morning sets alike.
Over the years, he has shared the decks with leading international artists including Dubfire, Nic Fanciulli, Gui Boratto, Kaiser Souzai, “Evil” Eddie Richards, Rob Roar, Clive Henry, Chus & Ceballos, Sharam Jey, Nora En Pure, SABB, Denis Cruz, Miguel Bastida, Subb-an, Sammy D and many more.
Growing up in a highly musical Persian family, Otherkind began with the tombak, the central hand-drum of traditional Persian music. Its intricate finger work and expressive phrasing shaped his earliest understanding of rhythm. This background continues to define how he builds tension, groove and atmosphere in a club setting, approaching each set with the instinct of a percussionist and the sensitivity of a storyteller.
After moving from Tehran to Kuala Lumpur in 2010, he quickly connected with the city’s expanding underground movement. His early residencies exposed him to a wide range of local and expatriate crowds, refining the adaptability that would later become his trademark. It was his residency at The Sweatbox, however, that solidified his status as one of KL’s most influential underground DJs.
His long open-to-close performance for the brand is still remembered as a pivotal moment, demonstrating his ability to keep a room hypnotised for hours. With more than fifteen years behind the decks and nearly a decade as a producer, he continues to push forward with a distinctive sound that blends deep minimal grooves, rolling techno energy and subtle melodic tension.
His studio work shows that same sensitivity, from earlier atmospheric works to more recent titles such as Desire, which captures his deeper, hypnotic side, and Monolith, a production that highlights his growing command of dark, textural techno. Releases like Fragments reveal an emotional and melodic depth that complements his club-focused material and reflect an artist whose sound palette is expanding with intention.
Otherkind’s evolution as both a DJ and producer signals an artist moving confidently toward wider international recognition. His sets remain unpredictable, immersive and deeply rooted in rhythmic intuition, the work of someone who is not just playing to the dance floor but playing as part of it.
Otherkind opens Foundations Episode 06 with Hendriks Toth’s “Arequipa Lamitas,” a release rooted in Minimal House, deep house and minimal techno. Herck’s “Choices That You Make” and Nicolas Barnes’ “Amphia” continue that stripped-back approach, with Barnes’ material sitting between deep house, minimal techno and dub-influenced electronic music.
An unidentified “Lights” precedes Otherkind’s own “Alternative,” followed by Octave and the Alann M and Harle-tsu collaboration “Chronic.” Soulfreq and Fetish maintain the reduced club framework before Daniel Meister’s “Moving” provides a clear Deep Tech House entry, officially classified as Minimal / Deep Tech.
Otherkind returns with “Red Sky” before Danky Dave, Matt Krilert and Fixon develop the middle section through minimal and techno-oriented material. Advanced Transistor and Hertz Collision then shift the emphasis further towards Techno, giving the second half a tougher rhythmic profile than the opening selections.
Danny Wabbit’s “Connected” precedes Otherkind’s “System Update 2.0,” which is officially listed as Minimal / Deep Tech. The Dan Buri Dark Side Rework of “Convergence” follows, giving Otherkind four appearances across the programme and reinforcing the episode’s strong connection to minimal and deep-tech club music.
Private Press moves the closing stretch firmly into Deep Techno with “Highly,” officially categorised as raw, deep and hypnotic techno. Monika Kruse and Voodooamt then close the episode with the 2021 remaster of “Stringrise,” a confirmed Peak Time Techno release on Terminal M.
