Bicycle Corporation present episode 114 of their long-running Foundations series on Scientific Sound Asia, with DJ Valez joining the programme as the featured guest. Scientific Sound Asia operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music news platform, connecting underground artists and listeners across the region and internationally.
Bicycle Corporation is the Italian collaboration between Marco Mei and Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. Together they have developed a catalogue of more than fifty original productions and remixes across House, Deep House, Tech House, French House, Techno and more melodic electronic material.
Marco began his career in Turin during the early 1990s as Italy’s underground club movement was expanding rapidly. Through his involvement with the Urban People collective, he became closely connected with local events, DJ culture and the wider electronic music community.
That period gave him experience in both DJing and event organisation before his reputation extended beyond Turin and across Italy. International bookings followed, including a residency at Pacha in Sharm el-Sheikh and appearances across Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
Stefano developed his musical background from an early age through classical piano, percussion and drums. His influences ranged from composers such as Chopin to the rhythmic traditions of West African djembe, giving him a broad understanding of melody, rhythm and arrangement.
During his teenage years, underground electronic music and DJ culture became increasingly important to him. At a time when many of those sounds were difficult to hear through mainstream Italian radio, production offered a direct way to explore the music that interested him.
When Marco and Stefano joined forces, Bicycle Corporation developed around those complementary backgrounds. Marco brought extensive dancefloor experience and programming knowledge, while Stefano contributed instrumentation, rhythm and studio production.
The duo have released music through labels including Alchemy, Miniatures, WL77, Suka, GrooveTraxx and other independent imprints. Their catalogue moves between rhythm-led club material and more melodic productions without reducing the project to one fixed formula.
Bicycle Corporation have also revisited selected earlier material through their Bandcamp page. That archive gives listeners another way to follow the development of the project and reconnect with music from earlier stages of their career.
Alongside studio work, radio remains an important part of the duo’s activity. Marco is represented through the Scientific Sound Asia DJ agency, while Bicycle Corporation continue to present programmes through the Scientific Sound Asia radio station.
The Foundations series gives the pair space to introduce guest DJs and producers from different scenes while maintaining a clear connection with the wider underground electronic music community. Each edition reflects the duo’s interest in musical exchange, careful selection and the different influences that continue to shape their work.
Foundations 108 continues that format with DJ Valez taking the featured guest position. The episode brings another artist into the series while preserving the open-ended approach that has defined Bicycle Corporation’s radio work.
Guest DJ Valez
This edition features DJ Valez, the stage name of Ezio Vallini, an Italian DJ and producer born in Milan in 1964. His career began in 1980 with a residency at Ciak nightclub, opening a path that would take him through several of Italy’s best-known clubs and into radio, production and label work.
During the 1980s and 1990s, Valez performed at venues including Notorius, Satanika al Divina, Beau Geste, Amnesie, Villa delle Rose and Contatto. These appearances helped establish him within the Italian club circuit during a period of rapid growth for electronic music and DJ culture.
In 1987, he joined the staff of Radio Deejay, then under Claudio Cecchetto, bringing him into contact with one of the country’s most influential radio organisations. The move added broadcasting to a career already developing through club residencies and live appearances.
Valez released his first record, Shake It, in 1992 at Gianni Bini’s recording studio. His productions later appeared through labels including UMM and Subway Records, placing his work within the wider Italian electronic scene of the period.
One of those productions, Insanity, was selected by UMM for a special compilation celebrating the label’s first one hundred releases. At the time, the UMM roster included artists such as Alex Neri, Stefano Noferini, Ivan Iacobucci and Claudio Coccoluto.
In 1996, Valez founded Networks Club with DJ and producer Luca Antolini. The label reached the UK charts that year with FS Orbital Progressive, while further productions including History became closely associated with the progressive electronic sound of the decade.
That period also included a remix of DJ Dado’s X Files, which went on to achieve major international success. The release became one of the most widely recognised productions connected with Valez’s work during the 1990s.
Also in 1996, Valez became Production Director of Radio Italia Network in Bologna under Michele Menegon, better known as DJ Michael Hammer. During the same period, he entered the Top 70 published by Trend Discotek, reflecting his standing within Italy’s national DJ scene.
His club activity remained equally important, including the creation of the One Night – ORBITAL event at Exodus in Ferrara with Luca Antolini. He also performed for several years with Killer Faber at Illiria and held a residency in the Quiezal room at ECU in Rimini, sharing the decks with artists including Marco Dionigi and Adrian Morrison.
After stepping away from production for around a decade, Valez returned in 2010 with Fulvio Perniola, formerly of Fathers of Sound, releasing a series of tracks through Nu Tunes Records. Another extended break followed before he resumed his work as a DJ and producer in 2025.
His current sets lean towards Progressive House and Organic House, but his musical background extends far beyond those styles. More than four decades of experience allow him to move between periods, genres and different musical languages with the flexibility associated with old-school DJs.
That broad approach also led to the creation of ONIRIA in 2025, a project built around musical research, selection and exploration. Inspired by the dream world associated with Neil Gaiman’s Sandman, the concept uses music, spoken elements and atmospheric interventions to create a more immersive form of DJ performance.
Rather than following one fixed genre or period, ONIRIA is designed around freedom of movement between past and present, rhythm and atmosphere. The project reflects Valez’s wider philosophy as a selector, where experience and musical knowledge are used to build journeys without strict stylistic boundaries.

For his appearance on Foundations 108, DJ Valez brings more than four decades of experience across clubs, radio, production and independent label activity. His contribution adds a distinctly Italian perspective to the series while connecting the foundations of European club culture with his renewed work as a DJ and producer.
DJ Valez opens Foundations Episode 114 with Sebastian Sellares' Abaddon, immediately establishing the deep melodic character of Progressive House. Lonya and ENAP continue that direction before Claudio Cornejo's Ocean Vibes introduces the warmer textures of Organic House.
Gai Barone's remix of Tripswitch and Yan Niklas with J Doppler return the session firmly to Progressive House, keeping the early development focused on long-form arrangements and layered melodic movement. Nicolas Petracca's Night Fall remix of ENAP then introduces the programme's sole Tech House selection before Gai Barone and Cary Crank restore the progressive flow.
Trilucid's Hiera adds another Organic House passage before Simon Tagias' Mattel takes the mix back into deeper Progressive House territory. Deep Dish's The Future Of The Future supplies the only Techno selection, giving the middle of the programme a firmer rhythmic contrast before Gai Barone returns with Macula.
Kiotto's remix of YOMAL begins an extended Progressive House sequence alongside Montw's treatment of Home Shell and UNWA and Ruben Karapetyan's remix of Emi Galvan. Somelee's Sexual Healing briefly softens that run with Organic House before Will Daley and Stereo Underground close the session by returning once more to its dominant progressive foundation.
Across Foundations Episode 114, Progressive House overwhelmingly shapes DJ Valez's selection, with Gai Barone appearing both as an artist and remixer across several key stages of the set. Organic House provides the main secondary influence, while isolated Tech House and Techno selections add contrast without pulling the episode away from its deep, melodic and progressive identity.
