DJ Joshua shares the track lists for his Floating Beats and Velvety Elements programmes on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency and promoter, as well as a music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
DJ Joshua, whose real name is Joshua Mar, is a Portuguese electronic-music enthusiast from Évora with a long-standing interest in collecting records and other music. His musical background ranges from House and Drum and Bass to Chillout, while Techno has been a particular focus of his listening and DJing.
Growing up in Évora, he began gathering electronic music as a youngster, an interest that developed into a lasting commitment to the music. During the early 1990s, he learned to DJ, became a vinyl digger and experienced the emergence of rave music and culture.
He shared a range of electronic music on local radio shows and played at events organised with friends and fellow ravers. As his electronic obsession grew, Portugal's rave scene was gaining momentum and he saw a need for local media coverage of its electronic genres.
After the birth of his first child, Joshua took time away from DJing to concentrate on fatherhood. When he returned to music, he started a new radio show and Floating Beats was born.
Floating Beats and Velvety Elements are transmitted by online radio stations in different parts of the world. Joshua describes the purpose of the shows in his own words: 'Music is an art form. Is the fusion of elements that can convey emotions and make the body move. This is a place where you hear sounds that can float and end up falling onto your body, enjoy it'.
Across his weekly programming, Joshua presents House Music and Techno in forms including Deep House, Tech House, Melodic House, Detroit House, Soulful House, Progressive House, Vocal House and Melodic Techno. The two programmes provide space for these related strands while drawing on his wider experience of electronic music culture.
In the Floating Beats section, Laurent Chanal opens with the LoNe remix of Sequence on Brique Rouge, establishing a Deep House foundation. 100to follows with July on Acid Candle, keeping the opening focused on patient, low-slung club rhythm.
Genning's Justify on MixCult Digital introduces Deep Tech House to the first hour. Joal's Abomination on Moodmusic then brings an Indie Dance turn, changing the character without leaving the underground framework.
Brian Kage's Detroitasaurus on Michigander moves the programme into Peak Time Techno, followed by Laurent Garnier's edit of 6 Months Earlier on F Communications. Satoshi Fumi's Acid String on Sudbeat Music adds Melodic House and Techno, bringing a more spacious line into the central stretch.
Rogerio Martins returns Floating Beats to Deep House with the Col Lawton remix of Vale on Piston Recordings, before Biz's Heat on Metrohm brings back Peak Time Techno. Weiss and Octave's Satoshi Fumi remix of Tokyo Sunset on Spring Tube closes this section with Breaks and a sharper rhythmic contrast.
Velvety Elements begins with Lus's Glamourdaze on Piston Recordings and Nnatn's Love Me To on Night Vibez Records, both returning to Deep House. Their placement gives the second programme a warmer, more measured opening after the firmer closing stretch of Floating Beats.
DJ Pipe's Sky Lounge on Small Hours introduces Tech House, while Casey Spillman's Let's Go on Constant Sound brings Deep Tech House back into view. ADMN and Mister Joshooa follow with the Delano Smith remix of LFOs Are Tight on Infolines, restoring the deeper house emphasis.
Daniel Sanchez and Nima Gorji's Polar remix of One (Morning Favorites) leads into Alfredo Ávila's We're All Connected on House Cookin Records. B&S Concept's Yeah! on Piston Recordings follows, keeping the late portion anchored in Deep House.
Currents shifts the tone with I Just Might on Brobot Records, adding House Music before Luca Donzelli's Crispy on likeminded returns to Deep Tech House. House Violence closes Velvety Elements with Jess on House Cookin Records, ending the programme in the deeper house territory established near its opening.
