DJ Joshua presents the combined Floating Beats and Velvety Elements edition on Scientific Sound Asia, bringing together the first and second hours of his selection. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
DJ Joshua, whose real name is Joshua Mar, is a Portugal-based electronic music selector with a particular fondness for Techno. Later local context also identifies him as Joshua Fernand, and his work has been associated with Portuguese electronic music for decades.
His record library shows a deep appreciation for diverse styles and informs his work across electronic music. He is known for placing different strands of the music together in sets that hold attention through contrast and progression.
His interest in electronic music developed in the early 1990s alongside Portugal's rising rave scene. He shared that enthusiasm on local radio, organised events and used music as a way to build community.
After a period focused on raising a family, he returned to his love for music and launched Floating Beats as a weekly radio show. The programme has received recognition internationally and centres on deeper, progressive and underground electronic music.
"Music is an art form," he reflects. "It’s the fusion of elements that can convey emotions and make the body move. This is a place where you hear sounds that can float and end up falling onto your body... Enjoy it.”
In the first hour, Floating Beats opens with Boehm's Eternal Truth on Acunadeep before Danny Howells' Mihai Popoviciu remix of Shortwave on Selador establishes a Deep House foundation. Pmar's Reboot follows before Tony Lionni's Harlem Hustle on wewillalwaysbealovesong and Vince Watson's Forever on Everysoul extend the early section.
Satoshi Fumi's Nu Era on Bedrock Records introduces Melodic House and Techno to the first hour. Simon Garcia's Chordus then leads into Brian Kage's Past Echos, keeping the selection moving towards its more focused later passages.
Ian O'Donovan's Belladonna on MB Elektronics brings in Techno (Raw / Deep / Hypnotic) textures. Marco Bailey's Gabriel Ananda remix of Bollocks on MB Elektronics and Biz's Autumn Blues on Transmat raise the intensity through Peak Time Techno.
That first-hour run gives Floating Beats a clear movement from spacious opening selections into firmer Techno rhythms. The final records place the stronger club pressure at the end without losing the depth established by the opening tracks.
In the second hour, Velvety Elements begins with Soulphiction's Ballin' on LW Recordings and Claudio Coccoluto's Fanfare Africane, both rooted in House Music. Their placement gives the programme a warmer start after the closing Techno section of Floating Beats.
CubaLibre's Ballet Interlude on Select Rec shifts the second hour into Deep Tech House. Intr0beatz's A Part Of Me on Cosmic Angles follows with a deeper house-focused groove.
Casey Spillman's Right Order on Constant Sound keeps the reduced rhythmic approach in place before Azymuth's Global Communication Space Jazz Mix of Jazz Carnival on NRK changes the texture. Henrik Villard's Bring The Soul on House Cookin Records then brings the set back towards a soulful late-night feel.
Local Options' All We Have Is Now on Large Music is followed by Nick Curly's Mute Navigator and Nicco (ND)'s Javonntte remix of Lost Universe on Recline Music. Platzdasch & Dix close Velvety Elements with Select on House Cookin Records, leaving the second hour in the deeper house territory that defines its format.
