DJ Joshua presents his Floating Beats and Velvety Elements programmes on Scientific Sound Asia in this track-list feature. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Portuguese DJ Joshua, also known as Joshua Mar, developed a strong interest in electronic music while growing up in Évora. He built an extensive music collection, favouring Techno while also exploring House Music, Drum and Bass and Chillout.
Joshua began his DJ career in the early 1990s, as rave culture emerged in Portugal. He became a recognised local radio figure, sharing his enthusiasm for electronic music and arranging gatherings that brought ravers together.
He recognised the need for a media outlet for these developing genres and played a role in the growth of the local scene. After a hiatus to prioritise his family, he returned to music by introducing Floating Beats, a radio programme that had gained global acclaim.
Music is an art form. It's the fusion of elements that can convey emotions and make the body move, Joshua says about his show. This is a place where you hear sounds that can float and end up falling onto your body... Enjoy it.

Floating Beats opens with Subground 3000’s Expecting on Re:vibe Audio, establishing a Peak Time Techno foundation. Ritz follows with Square One on Piston Recordings, bringing Deep House into the early sequence.
Joris Voorn’s Frank Maurel remix of Polydub on Spectrum (NL) returns the first hour to peak-time pressure. DJ Skull’s Good Pain on Counterchange Recordings then introduces Techno (Raw / Deep / Hypnotic) textures.
Ian O'Donovan’s Rath Of The Synods on Tronic reinforces the Peak Time Techno direction before Theobald Ringer’s Jules Wells remix of Effervescence on Brique Rouge turns towards House Music. Taho’s Soulstice on MB Elektronics restores the firmer Techno focus for the later part of Floating Beats.
Satoshi Fumi’s Mirage on Sudbeat Music adds a Progressive House passage before Avision’s What I Say on Hardgroove returns to raw, deep and hypnotic Techno. DJ HMC’s Universal Experience closes the first hour without interrupting its emphasis on forceful electronic rhythm.
Velvety Elements begins with Inner City’s Carl Craig remix of Do Ya on KMS Records (BEAT Music Fund), retaining a Techno edge at the handover. DJ Ino and MC Johnny Def’s Vicenzo remix of Love Is In the Air on Be Adult Music then settles into Deep House.
Gusher’s Fanku on Piston Recordings keeps the deeper mood in place, followed by Fred Everything’s Imagination & Determination on Champion Records. Ritz’s Always, also on Piston Recordings, brings in Funky House before Nick Curly’s Mavis on Cecille returns to House Music.
Jason Hodges and Vincent Caira’s Day in Paris on Robsoul Recordings extends the Funky House thread. Luis Bravo’s Middle Rhythm Mix of Today on Monog Records then draws the programme back into Deep House.
Head Rush’s Dad Shoes on Hush Recordz Limited shifts the final stretch towards Tech House, while Photon Inc.’s Whistle Blast Mix of Project Blast on Strictly Rhythm restores a House Music pulse. Clive From Accounts’ Moon Buggy on On The Corner Records brings Afro House into the closing section, before Killed Kassette and Lexx Groove finish with Ecstasy.
