DJ Joshua presents the Floating Beats and Velvety Elements programmes on Scientific Sound Asia, with the tracklists for both hours collected here. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
DJ Joshua, whose real name is Joshua Mar, is a Portuguese electronic music connoisseur. Growing up in Évora, he developed a deep passion for electronic music and built a collection spanning house, drum and bass, chill-out and techno, with techno a particular favourite.
Joshua's journey as a DJ began in the early 1990s, fuelled by Portugal's growing rave scene. He became involved with local radio shows, shared his love of electronic music and organised events with fellow ravers, helping to build a strong community presence.
After a brief hiatus to focus on family, DJ Joshua returned to DJing and launched Floating Beats. The radio show has since become a regular outlet for electronic music listeners worldwide.
"Music is an art form. It's the fusion of elements that can convey emotions and make the body move," Joshua says about his show. "This is a place where you hear sounds that can float and end up falling onto your body ... Enjoy it."
Floating Beats, the first hour, brings together electronic music from artists including Bee Lincoln, KiNK and Chris Stussy. Its selection draws on techno and house with an emphasis on the energy and movement of both styles.
The second hour, Velvety Elements, turns towards the soulful and introspective sounds of deep house. It features artists such as Clive From Accounts, Fish Go Deep and Luca Donzelli, exploring the emotional depth and complexity associated with the genre.
In the first hour, Floating Beats opens with Bee Lincoln's Above & Away on Sibil-la Music, establishing a Deep Tech House foundation. DJ Sadie's Hypnoticka on Bedrock Records then introduces an Indie Dance edge.
Chris Stussy follows with Nunchi on MicroHertz, moving the first hour into Deep House. Ron Costa's Divoc on Potobolo Records returns to Deep Tech House, giving the early run a firmer club focus.
Pol_On's I Need on Freerange Records restores the deeper house direction before Paul Jays' DJ Vibe remix of Spiritual Battery on Magna Recordings changes the pace. That remix brings in Tech House without losing the programme's underground feel.
Floating Beats closes with Fabian Argomedo and Jorge Cary's Retro Run on Happy Techno Music, followed by Andrew Meller's Take A Ride on Noexcuse Records. Both tracks keep the Tech House focus in place to complete the first-hour selection.
In the second hour, Velvety Elements begins with Clive From Accounts' Keep Movin' on Outplay and Fish Go Deep's Who Who on Go Deep Recordings. These Deep House records establish the warmer and more soulful direction of the programme.
DJ Linus brings Princess Of Georgia from Piston Recordings into the sequence before Luca Donzelli's Crispy on likeminded adds Deep Tech House detail. The pairing moves from spacious house textures towards a more percussive groove.
Blue Chords' From Way Back on House Salad Music introduces Dance Music to the later section. Head Rush follows with Raindrops on Hush Deep, bringing the selection into House Music.
Kuzey's Smoke Some on Piston Recordings, Satoshi Fumi's Eric Vibe remix of Moment and Tojami Sessions' Feel Love on Plastic City return Velvety Elements to Deep House. Soulfreq's Weller remix of Robotika on Friktion and HUGEhands' Like It on Closer To Truth finish the hour with Deep Tech House and House Music in balance.
