DJ Joshua presents the Floating Beats and Velvety Elements radio shows on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
DJ Joshua, whose real name is Joshua Mar, comes from Évora, Portugal, and has a longstanding interest in electronic music. His collection includes vinyl records and digital tracks, while his DJ work draws on Techno, House Music, Drum and Bass and Chillout.
During the 1990s, DJ Joshua contributed to Portugal's rave culture despite resistance to the unconventional style of rave music at the time. He kept presenting music on community radio programmes and organising events, gaining recognition locally and internationally.
After a short hiatus to focus on family matters, DJ Joshua returned to music through his radio shows. Floating Beats features several electronic styles and includes music by Ray Kajioka, The KLF, Eats Everything and James Solace.
In its second hour, Velvety Elements turns towards the soulful side of Deep House, with Diego Krause, DJOKO and Paul Rudder among the artists featured. The programme foregrounds the emotional depth and complexity associated with the style.

In the first hour, Floating Beats opens with Hisashi Aochi's Dubtechno on SPECTRA, introducing Peak Time Techno before Ray Kajioka's Over the Edge on Parabel brings Techno (Raw / Deep / Hypnotic) into focus. AND.ID's Player, released by Gruuv, follows with Tech House.
Ritz's 262 on Piston Recordings shifts the first hour towards deeper house rhythms, before Eats Everything's Space Raiders on Kneaded Pains raises the pressure again. DJ Joshua's edit of The KLF's Last Train to Trancentral (Us Mix) follows, retaining the programme's connection to rave-era material.
James Solace's Ghost Town on Last Night On Earth introduces Melodic House and Techno, while Hybrasil's Oppenheimer on Hybrasil returns to the tense techno edge. DJ 3000's Don't Stop on Motech Records then brings the raw, deep and hypnotic side of the programme back to the foreground.
Huxley's Tight Knitted on Hot Haus Recs keeps Floating Beats firmly focused on peak-time energy, followed by DJ Vibe and Sebastian Manuel's Drunken Kong remix of Nightcrawlers on Session Womb. Underground Sound Of Lisbon's Frankyeffe unofficial remix of So Get Up closes the first hour with a nod to the Portuguese act's enduring club record.
In the second hour, Velvety Elements begins with Gavinco's Regard on Houseum Records, bringing a Dance element into the selection. Deep88 and Melchior Sultana's Chicago follows, keeping the transition towards the programme's house-focused material measured.
Diego Krause's Leaving Home gives the second hour a stripped-back club feel before DJOKO's Copyrighted extends that approach. Both selections sit naturally within the warmer, deeper direction established for Velvety Elements.
Paul Rudder's Things To Tell You on Tilly Jam restores the emphasis on Deep House, and Platzdasch & Dix's Select on House Cookin Records develops its understated pace. Ben Murphy's These Days on Music Related Records introduces Deep Tech House without breaking the hour's close-knit mood.
Cosmjn's Effected leads into Toni Young's Custom Suit on Piston Recordings, followed by Ritz's Rhodes on E and JOFF.'s Electric Feet, also on Piston Recordings. Idjut Boys finish Velvety Elements with Jesta (Dub) on U-Star Records, ending the programme in a dub-inflected house register.
