DJ Joshua’s Floating Beats and Velvety Elements radio programmes feature in this Scientific Sound Asia playlist article. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter, DJ agency and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
DJ Joshua, whose real name is Joshua Mar, comes from Évora, Portugal, and is a committed electronic-music listener and collector. His collection includes vinyl records and digital tracks, while his musical preferences include Techno, House, Drum and Bass, and Chillout.
During the 1990s, DJ Joshua played a part in Portugal’s rave culture despite resistance to rave music’s unconventional style at the time. He kept sharing music through community-radio programmes and organising events, gaining recognition locally and internationally.
After a brief hiatus to focus on family matters, he returned to music by launching his radio shows. Floating Beats presents a range of electronic styles through artists including Carl Craig, Audiojack, Jon Hester and Richie Hawtin.
The first hour combines Techno and House Music in a focused club format. Velvety Elements occupies the second hour, exploring the soulful side of Deep House through artists including Frankie Feliciano, Vakula, Aris-A1 and Demarkus Lewis.
DJ Joshua’s selections and transitions show his detailed knowledge of electronic music and its effect on listeners. His DJ Joshua Mixcloud page provides access to his electronic-music releases and programmes.
In the first hour, Floating Beats opens with Carl Craig and Moritz Von Oswald’s Attenuator in the Carl Craig Version on Planet E Communications, establishing a Techno (Raw / Deep / Hypnotic) foundation. Audiojack’s Transitions on Gruuv then brings in Progressive House movement.
Franky Rizardo’s Dusty Mornings on Pink Revolver introduces Deep House before Dave Seaman and DJ Paul (AR)’s Hernan Cattaneo and Mariano Mellino remix of Loco Hermoso on Selador returns to Progressive House. The pairing gives the opening stretch a measured shift between deeper house textures and progressive rhythm.
Paralel’s Rob Hes remix of See Me From Beyond on Pursuit adds Melodic House and Techno to the first-hour sequence. Ian O’Donovan and Satoshi Fumi’s Rising, Mix 2, on Bedrock Records follows with another Progressive House selection.
Richie Hawtin’s Time Warps on From Our Minds and Biz’s Heat on Metrohm raise the intensity through Peak Time Techno. Ian O’Donovan closes Floating Beats with Rath Of The Synods on Tronic, keeping the hour firmly in Techno territory.
In the second hour, Velvety Elements begins with Frankie Feliciano’s One Note Samba before Vakula’s Andre Lodemann Mix of Ring Of Night on Best Works Records settles into Deep House. The opening places Feliciano’s samba-titled selection beside Vakula’s understated house rhythm.
Aris-A1’s Esoteric Burt Street leads into B&S Concept’s Scandal on NYON Records, retaining the second hour’s deeper house focus. Henrik Villard’s I Don’t Mind on Feedasoul Records follows with another Deep House cut.
Demarkus Lewis brings Soul Of A Nation, the Main Mix, from Viva Recordings, and Kamosoul follows with the G. Poulias MG Dub of Shine on Piston Recordings. Luis Bravo and Daniel De Roma’s Connected on Colour In Music keeps Velvety Elements within its Deep House setting.
Sam Holland’s Ecology on Too Many Rules introduces House Music before Taho and Matt Sugar R’s Dopaminovor on Sugar Tape Recordings returns to Deep House. Peace Division’s Peter and Tyrone’s Camouflage Mix of Groove Me on Camouflage Recordings ends the second hour with a house-led finish.
