Blaze DJ performing first Smoke & Lasers show

Blaze DJ presents his first Smoke & Lasers show on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.

Blaze DJ is a British DJ and producer from Walthamstow in London’s East End, United Kingdom. His career and background are rooted in underground music culture and DJing.

He has worked across the industry through making music, playing gigs, designing sound systems, sourcing DJ equipment for resale, teaching DJ skills and designing clothing. His three decades of background and connections in London’s underground music scene have earned him recognition as a straight talker and doer.

During his formative years, he spent time in Rhodes, Greece, playing at events across the island and building his name in the DJ world. After returning to London, he was heavily involved in setting up the sound system for the United Kingdom and World Disco Mixing Championships, as well as the development of pioneering software and DJ equipment that helped begin music’s digital age.

Later in his career, he was a key figure in establishing the first DJ equipment store inside a London department store, Selfridges. The store was visited by many international and UK-based DJs, including celebrity DJs who became household names.

Following the birth of his children, he took a break from DJing to enjoy fatherhood before returning to the scene after furlough to begin a new project. At the time of publication, that project was Red Star DJ, intended as the basis for his new record label.

The episode was first broadcast on Friday, 30 April 2021. Its selection moves through house, breaks and electro-informed club music, with Blaze DJ’s own production appearing in the later stages.

Blaze DJ’s first Smoke & Lasers show episode opens with Fiorious’s Roger Sanchez remix of Follow Me on Glitterbox Recordings, setting a House Music foundation. Din & Vic’s Greenstar on Irox brings in Bass House, before DONT BLINK’s Vibration on Sink Or Swim introduces Tech House.

Block & Crown, Lissat and Paul Parsons bring Das Phatt on Tactical Records into Funky House, followed by Southall and MoreCause’s Keep It Comin’ on Dug Out Records. Chris Nord’s Bad Intentions on Underground Kollektiv Records tightens the groove towards Deep Tech House, while Aloka’s Concave on Typeless Records turns to Electro (Classic / Detroit / Modern) before Brothers Of Funk’s Make My Day on Gigabeat Records introduces Breaks.

Donna Giles’s Wh0 club mix of And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going 2020 on BTech restores the house pressure, while James Shinra’s Gritti on Craigie Knowes returns to electro. Full Intention’s Meteor Man on Off Spin leads into Sekret Chadow’s That Feeling Of Looking Back on Distorsion Records, where the programme again favours breaks-led rhythms.

Ondamike’s VIP mix of Funky on Ravesta Records is followed by Deibeat’s Under This remix of You Make Me Feel on Toast & Jam Recordings and Mafia Kiss’s Tundra on Punks. Those selections keep the breaks focus in place before the uncredited-label pairing of Ruecksicht featuring Poly’s Together and Dreams’ Unknown on No Face Records.

Dreams’ Unknown brings a Hip-hop & Rap reference into the sequence, followed by Blaze DJ’s The Get Down on Red Star DJ. The latter is the programme’s confirmed Pop entry, before The Darrow Chem Syndicate’s Huda Hudia and Dj30a remix of My Daddy ’suga’ on Nipponeer Records returns to breaks.

Javy Groove’s Ravediced on Elektroshok Records and Brothers Of Funk’s Tear It Up on Ravesta Records sustain that broken-beat energy, while Anton Romezz’s Call Me on Soviett Rave brings electro back into view. Ellis Moss’s The Shake on Toolroom Trax and Tita Lau’s The Sequel on Stereohype lift the closing stretch through tech house, before Sandy B’s Ryan Blyth club mix of Make The World Go Round on Champion Records and Altitude360 DJ’s Gentle Word on Underground Kollektiv Records close on house and deep tech house.
