Bicycle Corporation presented Roots episode 80 on Scientific Sound Asia with guest DJ Brendon P. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across the region and internationally.
Bicycle Corporation is the Italian collaboration between DJ and producer Marco Mei and Stefano Ugliano, who is also known as 6884. The pair have issued more than 50 releases across Deep House, House, Melodic and French House, and Techno.
Marco began DJing in the early 1990s and worked with the Urban People crew on House Music and Techno events. His work in Italy led to international bookings, including appearances across Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
Stefano grew up in Torino, Italy, where he showed an early interest in music and spent much of his free time developing his skills. His studies included classical piano, percussion and drums, informed by Chopin's compositions and West African Djembe rhythms.
As a teenager, Stefano developed a particular interest in DJing and record selection. Electronic sounds were rarely heard on Italian radio at the time, which deepened his interest in the turntable-led culture around them.
Marco and Stefano brought their respective experiences together in Bicycle Corporation. The project grew from their commitment to producing and performing electronic music.
The duo later revisited some of their earlier work and made it available through their Bandcamp page. This archive gives listeners access to material from the project's earlier period.

DJ Brendon P, also known by his real name Brendon Perera, originates from Singapore and embraces a discreet, lo-fi approach to his artistry. With a career spanning nearly four decades and still evolving, Brendon carries a wealth of experience within the club and music scene.
Brendon embarked on his journey in 1980 within the local mobile circuit, transitioning to clubs just a year later. His transformative visit to New York in 1984 exposed him to iconic clubs like the Funhouse, the Paradise Garage, Dancetaria, and the Area. This experience immersed him in the dynamic New York club culture and the burgeoning house music scene, leaving a lasting impact that resonates even today.
Over his extensive DJ career, spanning an array of musical genres such as House, Techno, Disco, Nu-Disco, Funk, Soul, Lounge, and Electronica, Brendon P has navigated both local and international landscapes. With roots firmly planted in the club scene since the 1980s, he has refined his skills, developing a discerning ear and an enduring passion for dance music.
Brendon P's illustrious career features residencies with prestigious groups such as Juliana’s and Bacchus in the '90s, along with engagements with Neo Pharaohs, Venom, and NOX during the same period. Notably, he enjoyed a prominent 9-year residency at the globally renowned Zouk Club in Singapore. Additionally, from July 2001 to May 2009, Brendon held a 2-year residency at Kyo and played a vital role as a member of the Residents team at the esteemed CE LA VI Rooftop Club & Skybar at Marina Bay Sands for 4 and a half years.
Brendon continues to be a prominent figure in both the local and international club circuit today. His DJ sets have electrified cities worldwide, from Geneva and Gothenburg to Melbourne, London, New York, Miami, Taiwan, Hanoi, Hong Kong, and beyond.
Brendon also had the honour of performing at the prestigious (and now defunct) Cielo Club in New York in June 2010. Furthermore, as a producer in his own right, Brendon has released original tracks and remixes on esteemed labels such as In The Woods (USA), Los Grandes (Spain), Reversoulmusic (USA), Audio Parallax (UK), and various others.
Brendon's steadfast dedication to musical style, sophistication, and meticulous attention to detail has garnered him immense praise. Nicolas Mattar, owner of New York's renowned venues 'Cielo' and 'Output', hails him as a 'taste master' and one of the top DJs in the region. Bicycle Corporation's Roots 80 with DJ Brendon P opens with Middle Name Dance Band's Deeper Than Love on Middle Name Records, establishing a Nu-Disco foundation. Kid Fonque and Jonny Miller follow with Get Off Ya Ass on Stay True Sounds, bringing Deep House into the opening run.
Falco's Jack Tennis edit of No Answer/Hallo Deutschland, sourced from Bandcamp, turns towards Disco. Lakeshouse's Firkanta in the 6 AM Sensual Dub Mix on Paper Disco and Selvagem Edits' Portonic Por Favor on Disco Deviance extend that rhythmic direction.
Ketama's Overture on Cosmic Rhythm CRM19 precedes Alessandro Alessandroni's Jolly Mare Lifting of Afro Discoteca on Four Flies Records. Yellow Magic Orchestra's Vyvyan Tape edit of Cue from Bandcamp and Bodycode's Take's Me Away on Khoikhoi keep the middle section focused on contrasting edits and electronic material.
Saint-Loup-En-Bray's Piango Et Rido on Super Spicy Records leads into Pitto's Baila on Heist Recordings. Earthboogie's Demi Riquísimo remix of Silken Moon, featuring Nina Miranda and released on Leng Records, sets up Paul McCartney's Shep Pettibone 1988 Instrumental Mix of Ou Est Le Soleil on Capitol Records, a House Music selection.
Change's Dr. Packer Re-Work of Angel In My Pocket is followed by Joanne Wilson's Whiskey Barons Re-Edit of Got To Have You on BBE Music. Scan 7's Alma Negra remix of All For Me on Heist Recordings then gives way to The Funk District's Easy Easy on Saint Wax.
The closing stretch brings Teleseen's Dam Swindle remix of Dekalb on Heist Recordings into the final exchange. The Spaces Between, featuring Harry Dennis, close with Black Science Orchestra Remix 1 of Ghosts on FCLR, ending the programme with another extended rework.
