Anonymous Z presents Not So Anonymous episode 36 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Anonymous Z is mostly revered in Saigon, Vietnam, for pioneering the Mad Circus parties. He also organised Bahrain's first underground DJ collective, Glassroom, and promoted events centred on music and mayhem.
Leading a group of misfits from different nationalities, he organised legal and occasional renegade parties and after-parties that local nightlife remembers as folklore. His motto at the time was "They tried to bury us, but they forgot we were seeds".
As part of the Banana Hustle crew's tropical events in Ho Chi Minh City, he helped develop its particular atmosphere. Originally a Techno specialist, he developed a taste for digging out unusual Afro, House, Disco and Funk records.
He complements this approach with hand-picked Techno and contemporary Indie Dance selections. His skills as a disc jockey brought him to underground Vietnamese venues including Arcan, The Lighthouse, Broma and Vitamin D after-parties.
His non-linear sets are often improvised and shaped by the crowd, moving across genres through tense, grooving bass lines and melodic storytelling. Over time, he has explored world music and the earliest eras of electro.
His selections can reach trippy, dark downtempo territory with tribal and South American influences. At other points, they move towards darker leftfield electro, informed by Nu-Disco, Electroclash, Wave, New Beat and Dark Disco.
Anonymous Z's Not So Anonymous episode 36 opens with K-Effect's Semantic on Ombra International, establishing an Electronica edge. Los Dvtsuns follows with the Chinosynth remix of Extasis on Emerald & Doreen Records, bringing in Progressive House detail.
Course Correction's The Tunguska Event and Viper Patrol's Marching Machines remix of Blind Swordsman, both on Nein Records, establish the programme's Indie Dance direction. Sacha Muki & Gioè's Le Castre and Rees's Xlr remix of Liquid Nitrogen, also released through Nein Records, keep that tension in place.
Steady State's Clandestino Melt Up Your Mind Mix of Shake Up Your Mind leads into Nexus's Tkuz remix of Deep Inside, featuring Cosaquitosen Globo. Barko's Ivan De La Rouch remix of Ellipsis on Espacio CIELO then returns the set to the sharp, nocturnal character of the earlier material.
The Juan Maclean's In a Minute on Correspondant provides a measured centre point before Fat & Bald's Ulises Arrieta remix of XYZ Problems on Nein Records. Daniel Monaco's Space Jail follows, while Tronik Youth's Fabrizio Mammarella remix of Sarcastic Lazers brings the Nein Records thread back into focus.
Daniel Watts's Terr remix of Cosmetic Ecstasy on Clash Lion extends the darker club pressure. Darlyn Vlys's Arrival on Duro and Ali X & Ximena's Nark remix of Pachanga, featuring Tkuz, keep the latter stages restless and varied.
Pete Callard's Owen Ezard & Tkuz remix of Time Walrus on Det Sync brings electronica back into the closing stretch. Rigopolar's Espiral on Duro precedes Hino Bros' Barcelona, ending the programme in the same shadowy dancefloor territory with which it began.
