DJ Joshua presents Floating Beats and Velvety Elements in this two-programme edition on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
DJ Joshua, also known as Joshua Mar, is from Évora, Portugal, and is a dedicated collector of electronic music. His collection spans vinyl records and digital tracks, while his interest in Techno, House, Drum and Bass and Chillout informs his work as a DJ.
During the 1990s, DJ Joshua contributed to Portugal's rave scene at a time when rave music faced social resistance. He shared music through local radio programmes and events, gaining recognition in his local community and further afield.
After a brief hiatus to focus on family, DJ Joshua returned to music and launched his radio shows. Floating Beats focuses on deeper, progressive and underground electronic music, with selections by artists including Christian Hornbostel, Sandrino, Frankey, La Fleur, Ian O'Donovan and Deetron.
Velvety Elements forms the second hour and turns towards warmer, deeper and more soulful House Music. Its selections include Miguel Graça, Augusto Gagliardi, Shane Mahon and Demarkus Lewis, drawing attention to the emotional range and detail of Deep House.
DJ Joshua’s shows pair considered selections with smooth transitions and demonstrate his knowledge of electronic music. His commitment to high-quality programming has earned him a dedicated following.
In the first hour, Floating Beats opens with Christian Hornbostel's Retroperceptions in Petar Dundov's remix on I Love This Sound, before La Fleur's Hunting Grounds receives Viggo Dyst's Skydiving Remix on Power Plant Records. Gag-M's Piano Talks on Polyptych Bundles brings in Melodic House and Techno detail.
Ian O'Donovan's Katla on Portals and Paul Nazca's Timanfaya on Way Of House establish the firmer line of Peak Time Techno. Brame & Hamo's Waves Reach precedes Deetron's Carl Cox remix of Photon, a House Music selection on Character.
Fango's Medulla on Degustibus follows with a taut Techno approach, while Petit Beurre's Matrix on Motech Records keeps that focus in place. Both records give the middle of Floating Beats a more forceful club-oriented character.
Laurent Garnier and Chambray close the first hour with Feelin' Good on Rekids. The track returns the programme to a House-led finish after the preceding Techno selections.
In the second hour, Velvety Elements begins with Miguel Graça's Answers in the MG's Vibe Mix on Pronto Musique, introducing Deep House warmth. Augusto Gagliardi's Rando Knowledgea follows, keeping the opening of the hour centred on patient, soulful club music.
Shane Mahon's Beautiful Creature on Piston Recordings is followed by RawBeetz's Within My Soul. HUGEhands then brings Resistance from Delve Deeper Recordings into the sequence, extending the hour's deeper mood.
Platzdasch and Dix's Melchior Sultana remix of En Plein Air on Feedasoul Records leads into Henrik Villard's I Don't Mind, also on Feedasoul Records. Alvaro AM's DuteQ on Whoyostro and Ben Balance's No New Friends on MicroHertz introduce Deep Tech House to the later stretch.
Danny Tape's Next Level on Mole Music adds a concise Tech House turn before Demarkus Lewis's Soul Of A Nation on Viva Recordings restores the deeper feel. Rony Breaker and Nat Mor's I'll Be the One in Demuir's Playboy Edit on Peppermint Jam Records leads to Luis Bravo and Daniel De Roma's Connected on Colour In Music, ending Velvety Elements with its soulful House focus intact.
