DJ Joshua presents Floating Beats and Velvety Elements, his weekly programmes on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter, DJ agency and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Joshua Mar, also known as DJ Joshua, is an electronic-music DJ from Évora, Portugal whose extensive music collection informs his approach behind the decks. From an early age, his fascination with electronic music led him to explore a broad spectrum of genres, including House, Drum and Bass, and Chill-out, with a particular focus on Techno.
In the early nineties, like many teenagers of his time, Joshua began learning the art of DJing and became an avid vinyl collector immersed in the burgeoning rave culture. He contributed to the local music scene by hosting radio shows across several electronic genres and playing at events organised with friends and fellow ravers, recognising the need for a media platform as Portugal's rave scene flourished.
After the birth of his first child, Joshua took a break from the scene to focus on fatherhood. As his child grew older, his desire to return to his musical roots intensified, leading to the creation of Floating Beats.
Joshua describes his Floating Beats podcast as a blend of various elements that evoke emotions and inspire movement: "Music is an art form. It is the fusion of elements that can convey emotions and make the body move. This is a place where you hear sounds that can float and end up falling onto your body... Enjoy it."
Each week, DJ Joshua’s shows explore a range of House Music and Techno sub-genres, including Deep House, Tech House, Melodic House, Detroit House, Soulful House, Progressive House, Vocal House, and Melodic Techno. The episodes covered tracks by David Alvarado, Oliver Schories, Hector Couto, DJ Vibe, Ben Balance, DJ Steaw, and Technotronic.
The accompanying tracklist opens with David Alvarado’s Luna on NRK in Tech House, before Oliver Schories’ Ray Okpara remix of Rampart on AMA Recordings brings Deep Tech House. Cab Drivers’ Droped Eye on Cabinet Records keeps to House Music, while D-Formation’s Carry On on BeatFreak Recordings introduces Progressive House.
Lauren Lo Sung’s Fixate on Lazare Hoche and Dee no’s Estilo on Dirtyclub Music return to Tech House. Hector Couto follows with I Feel You on ABODE Records, and DJ Vibe’s Pulsing on CrackHouse Recordings keeps that approach in place.
Antwon Faulkner’s Brandon De Carlo remix of Dogon on Hijacked Records Detroit turns towards Peak Time Techno. Danny Howells’ Retreat on Voltaire Music moves into Deep House, before Sous Sol’s Dizzy Rhythm on Hive Audio introduces Organic House.
Ben Balance’s You Can Count On Me on MicroHertz returns to Deep Tech House, while Rio Soldierman’s Brain on Club Session brings the selection back to House Music. Rogerio Martins’ Bona Fide on Piston Recordings then settles into Deep House.
DJ Steaw’s This Kind of Music on Rutilance Recordings keeps the deeper direction, and James Dexter’s That on Inermu restores the Deep Tech House focus. Platzdasch and Dix follow with Don't Feed the Apes on House Salad Music, returning to Deep House before the final stretch.
Miguel Lobo’s Basement on Rawsome Recordings leads into Technotronic’s Les Bisous remix of Pump Up The Jam on Hot Fuss, then Tamio Yamashita and Hiro Fujiki’s HP Vince remix of (Infinity) Only God Knows on King Street Sounds. DJ Susan’s Don't Wanna on Glasgow Underground precedes F.E.M’s closing track, Yes We Can.
