DJ Joshua presents Floating Beats and Velvety Elements on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Joshua Mar, also known as DJ Joshua, is a dedicated admirer of Portuguese electronic music. His extensive record collection strongly influences his DJing approach, and he is originally from Évora.
His passion for electronic music began at a young age and developed into a deep interest in styles including House, Drum and Bass, Chill-out and, above all, Techno. During his teenage years in the early nineties, he began working towards becoming a disc jockey alongside a community of like-minded people.
He collected vinyl, helped popularise rave music and culture through local radio programmes featuring different electronic styles, and played at events organised with friends and fellow fans. His passion also led him to witness the rise of rave culture in Portugal.
Joshua recognised the importance of creating a platform for cutting-edge electronic genres on a community radio station. When his first child was born, he took a break from music to focus on fatherhood before returning to his musical work as his child grew older.
He then launched the radio programme Floating Beats. His podcasts, Floating Beats and Velvety Elements, are broadcast on online radio stations worldwide.
Joshua views music as an art form that combines different elements to evoke emotion and inspire action. He envisages his programmes as spaces where melodies float through the air, settle gently, and encourage listeners to immerse themselves in the atmosphere.
His weekly programming features House Music and Techno styles including Deep House, Tech House, Melodic House, Detroit House, Soulful House, Progressive House, Vocal House and Melodic Techno. The first episode debuted on Monday, 25 January 2021.
In the first hour, Floating Beats opens with Kings Of Tomorrow's Dario D'Attis remix of Kaoz on Poker Flat Recordings, establishing a Deep House foundation. Eat Dust's Love & Sound on Bonzai Back Catalogue and Lauren Lo Sung's Fixate on Lazare Hoche then introduce the firmer movement of Tech House.
Danny Howells' Earthlings X on Selador returns to the deeper side of the selection before James Dexter and Frink's Gone on Cyclic Records adds Deep Tech House detail. Craig Williams and Vula's Josh Butler remix of Don't Let Go, released through Snatch! Records, brings in House Music vocals without breaking the hour's club focus.
Hector Couto's I Feel You on ABODE Records keeps the Tech House pressure measured and direct. Sascha Dive's Untitled Deepness on eMBi Music follows with a similarly restrained approach.
Pedro Costa's Portugal on Habitat and Caravaca's D50 on Nomevea Records sustain that rhythmic direction through the later part of Floating Beats. DJ VIBE and Fauvrelle close the hour with The Present & the Future on In Flagrante Music, returning the emphasis to House Music.
In the second hour, Velvety Elements begins with Electronic Swing Orchestra's Powel remix of Mermaid on iM Electronic, adding an Electronica turn to the programme. KVRVBO's Resonate on Stay True Sounds subsequently settles the selection back into Deep House.
KE and Demuir's Out Of Body Experience appears in Demuir's Playboy Edit before Alvaro AM's DuteQ on Whoyostro restores the Deep Tech House thread. Chris Stussy's extended version of Seeing & Believing on PIV follows with a deeper House-based feel.
Jungle Wonz's Human Condition on Club Chi'll Records brings House Music back to the foreground, while Ritz's Introduction on Piston Recordings provides another Deep House passage. Deep88 and Melchior Sultana's Days Go By on Cold Busted introduces a brief Drum and Bass change of pace.
Federico Grazzini's Feel All Right on Voltaire Music brings the set back towards Tech House, followed by Makito's Disco Cop and Vertigini's The Rhythm Is Hot. Cinthie's Everything I Say on Beste Modus closes Velvety Elements in Deep House territory.
