Marco Mei announces the playlist for his new show on the 9th of January 2021

Marco Mei presents episode 2 of his 2021 radio series, broadcast on 9 January, on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an English-language electronic music radio station, DJ agency, music-news platform and events promoter specialising in electronic music across Asia, with audiences in India, China, Thailand, Taiwan, Korea, Sri Lanka and beyond.

Marco Mei is a DJ and producer from Italy with close to thirty years of experience. His early influences spanned Afrobeat, reggae, funk, disco, early hip hop and electronic music, a broad palette that continues to shape his approach to selection and production.

He began DJing in the early 1990s, playing venues across Italy before taking his sets to festivals and clubs around the world. Appearances alongside Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Ralph Falcon and Sander Kleinenberg helped develop his craft during those years.

A residency at Pacha Club in Sharm-El-Sheikh in the early 2000s opened the door to an international circuit that has included OBS in Saigon, Fuse in Brussels, CE' LA VI in Taipei, Shore Club in Hoi An, Bangaluu in Berlin, G-Star in Pattaya, Woobar in Bali and Global Dance Moscow among others. He relocated to Taipei in the early 2010s, building a consistent presence across the city's venues.

In 2009, he formed Bicycle Corporation alongside Stefano Ugliano, known as 6884, a production partnership that has generated over fifty tracks and remixes with recognition across the house music community. Marco is a member of the Scientific Sound Asia radio station roster and presents a weekly show covering deep house, tech house, Afro house, melodic techno, nu-disco, indie dance, electronica and techno. Marco Mei's January 2021 show opens with a clear statement of intent: Delfonic's Delfo's Check being a Boogie and Disco edit on Nómada Records that establishes the groove-led, crate-digging aesthetic running through the entire set. Malachi's Work It and Michael Kiwanuka's Solid Ground in the Yamil Vision rework follow, the latter translating the British soul artist's warmth naturally into a House Music context.

Demou's Sing Your Praises introduces a Deep House quality before the Lego Edit of Plastic Man returns to Disco territory. Ordonez's Burning Up adds a Tech House edge before Booker T and Kathy Brown's Boogie Oogie Oogie in the Booker T Vocal Mix arrives as a knowing nod to the Disco era.

Antonello Ferrari and Aldo Bergamasco's A Place In My Heart featuring Kim Mazelle is one of the more overtly Soulful House moments in the set. Angie Stone's Wish I Didn't Miss You in the Dragutesku Edit and Di Saronno Vs Benjamin Diamond's Petite Terrasse In Your Arms continue the soulful and Nu Disco direction.

Dream's U R The Best Thing in the Def Klub Mix and Fleetwood Mac's Big Love in the Nic Fanciulli Remix offer two contrasting moments in close succession. The Fanciulli rework of the 1987 rock track is a bold programming choice, its Tech House energy recontextualising the original effectively within the set's broader groove-led framework.

Jefferson Airplane's Somebody To Love in the Rowhle Luca Cucullo Edit follows as a second rock edit, reinforcing Marco Mei's willingness to reach outside dance music's conventional boundaries. Jazzanova's I'm Still Here in the Larse Remix brings the set back to Deep House territory before Phil Weeks and Charlie Sputnik's Dance Til The Sun Come Up and Supakings and Michael Gray's Back And Forth sustain the House energy through the later stages.

The Bucketheads' The Bomb in the Guille Placencia Edit and Armando's 100% Of Dissin' You in the Warehouse Remix form a natural pairing, both rooted in the Chicago and New York House traditions that underpin much of Marco Mei's programming sensibility. Blind Colors and Melonie Daniels Walker's Found Love in the David Morales Classic Mix closes the main body of the set with Soulful House warmth before Monsoon Season and Evelyn Joyce's Time Behind in the Alkalino Remix rounds off the show on a Nu Disco note.
