Bicycle Corporation announces track-list for ‘Roots’ 062

Bicycle Corporation presents Roots episode 062 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Sri Lanka, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, India, South Korea, the rest of Asia and internationally.

Bicycle Corporation is an Italian DJ and producer duo comprising Marco Mei and Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. Across their years of releasing music, the pair have produced more than 50 tracks spanning French House, Deep House, Tech House and Techno.

Marco began his career in the early 1990s as part of the crew for events including ‘Urban People’. He gained recognition on the Italian music scene before securing international bookings.

Hailing from Torino, Italy, Stefano showed promise as a musician from a young age and developed a strong passion for music. He learned classical piano, percussion and drums, while holding a deep admiration for Chopin’s compositions and the sound of the West African djembe.

Among Stefano’s varied musical interests, the DJ held a particular fascination for him as a teenager. The beats played by DJs were rarely heard on Italian radio stations at that time.

Creating those sounds and performing them for large audiences could have seemed an unattainable ambition. After meeting Marco, Stefano pursued that vision with dedication, and Bicycle Corporation was established.

Marco and Stefano have revisited some of their earlier tracks and established a Bandcamp page to distribute them. Bicycle Corporation are available for booking via our DJ Agency for Asia.

Bicycle Corporation’s Roots episode 062 opens with Bar-Kays’ Give It Up on Mercury, establishing a Funk foundation before Bohannon’s Foot Stompin Music on Brunswick Records brings in Disco. Chuck Brown & The Soul Searchers’ Berro E Sombero leads to Manu Dibango’s Makossa Rock on BCD/3RDP, bringing African Music into the opening run.

G.A.N.G.’s KKK, released through Best Record Italy, returns to the Disco thread before Gloor’s B1. Hugh Masekela’s Don’t Go Lose It Baby on Columbia introduces Jazz Music, and the Tom Jay Edit revisits the same recording before Jam Master featuring Instant Funk’s I Got My Mind Made Up in the Jam Master Dub.

James Brown’s Mr. Good Food in the Lego Remix is followed by his Get On The Good Foot on Polydor, keeping the programme close to his rhythmic catalogue. Maceo And The Macks’ Soul Power ’74 in the Angelo Ferreri Edit follows, while Nat Roman’s Ambabaia provides the next record in the sequence.

Paulinho Da Costa’s Simbora in the Mr V Edit and Sivuca’s Lego Edit of Ain’t No Sunshine bring Brazilian Jazz references into the set. James Brown’s There Was A Time on Universal Records then precedes Fela Kuti, Oscar P and Egypt 80’s Adoo, placing R&B beside Afrobeat.

Hamilton Bohannon’s Bohannon’s Beat on Brunswick returns to the Funk emphasis before Fern Kinney’s Groove Me on ScentAir moves towards Indie Dance. Konk’s Your Life follows, keeping the latter stretch focused on dancefloor-oriented selections from different periods.

Kebekelektrik’s War Dance from 1977, released on Salsoul Records, brings the Disco element back into view before K.S.B.’s Misaluba on Strut introduces House Music. Mother’s Finest close Roots 062 with Dis Go Dis Way, Dis Go Dat Way on Epic/Legacy, ending on another R&B-led record.
