DJ Joshua’s Floating Beats and Velvety Elements track lists were published on Scientific Sound Asia on 12 October 2020. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter, DJ agency and music-news platform serving audiences across Asia and internationally.
Known for his love of music and extensive collection, DJ Joshua, whose real name is Joshua Mar, is a Portuguese music enthusiast from Evora. He focuses primarily on electronic music, drawing on styles including House Music, Drum and Bass, Chillout and Techno.
Through his weekly show Floating Beats, he explores progressive and chilled material alongside melodic and techno styles. In the second hour, he collaborates with the radio programme Velvety Elements, which focuses on the calmer aspects of house music.
He began DJing in the early 1990s, experimenting with his first mixes and developing a love of collecting vinyl records. He started by presenting different electronic music styles on local radio programmes and organising events with fellow enthusiasts.
As his enthusiasm for music grew, he observed Portugal’s developing rave culture and recognised radio’s role in reaching a wider audience. Following the birth of his daughter, he stepped away from the music business.
A few years later, driven by his love of music, he launched a new radio show called Floating Beats Sessions. His podcast, Floating Beats, is broadcast on multiple radio stations globally.
He characterizes his show by saying: "Music is an artistic expression that blends different components to stir emotions and inspire movement... It provides a realm where you can immerse yourself in celestial melodies that will resonate with you... Enjoy!"
With a deep love of house music, DJ Joshua launched Velvety Elements as a tribute to the genre’s emotional richness. Its podcasts explore the nuances of house music and have received acclaim on international house and techno radio stations, including Scientific Sound Asia.
Joshua explores house and techno subgenres including Deep House, Tech House, Melodic House, Detroit Techno, Soulful House, Progressive House, Vocal House and Melodic Techno in his regular broadcasts. Together, Floating Beats and Velvety Elements present two distinct approaches to his electronic music selections.
In the first hour, Floating Beats opens with Livio & Roby and Hector’s Mound on Desolat, establishing a Tech House direction alongside Josh Butler’s Sinawava on Variety Music. DJ VIBE’s Special on Discotexas then brings a house-focused turn to the opening run.
Spinky’s Nobody on Datagroove Music moves into Deep Tech House territory. Soul Mekanik’s Thin Red Man Mix of I’ll Call U on Boxed introduces Progresive House before Danny Tenaglia’s Paradise Mix of Don’t Turn Your Back on Hot Creations returns to house music.
Danny Howells’ Saalim Remix of Right Off on Dig Deeper brings an Indie Dance accent to the first hour. Matthias Meyer and Patlac’s Nick Curly Remix of Salt City on Liebe Detail follows with another Tech House selection.
DJ Sneak, Tripmastaz and RareTwo Inc.’s Last Tango In Yo Ass on Cuttin’ Headz brings the sequence back to house music. Sam Haskin’s Paolo Rocco Remix of Glass Jaw on Talman Records closes this part of the programme with Deep Tech House weight.
In the second hour, Velvety Elements begins with Ritz’s After Psilocybin on Deep House label Piston Recordings. La Fleur’s Eavesdropper on Power Plant Records follows, returning the programme to Tech House.
Mandana’s Le Cockpit on MicroHertz keeps the second hour in Deep House, followed by Markus Homm’s Shadow on Cyclic Records. Kisk featuring Robert Owens’ Loure Remix of Your Face then extends the hour’s vocal presence.
Okain’s The Truth About You on Pleasure Zone brings Deep Tech House back into focus. Osunlade’s Franck Roger’s Remix of Same, Same on Yoruba Records adds an Afro House element before the later selections settle again into deeper club material.
Moonlit Vision’s Lorena on MicroHertz and Roland Nights’ Kota on Large Music sustain the Deep Tech House and Deep House flow. Tom Bug featuring IDA fLO’s Upside Down leads into Fred H’s From NYC With Love on Brique Rouge, ending the second hour with house music.
