The Lab Sessions present Assemble 07, the seventh edition of their programme on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music news platform, connecting underground artists and listeners across Asia and internationally.
Based in Bogotá, Colombia, The Lab Sessions is an electronic music collective focused on performance, collaboration and cultural exchange. Its work is closely connected with the development of Colombia’s underground scene and with creating platforms for both local and international artists.
The collective brings together DJs, producers, organisers and audiences from different backgrounds. By presenting Colombian artists alongside visitors from abroad, TLS has built an identity around shared musical experience rather than limiting its activity to one city, style or scene.
Since 2016, The Lab Sessions has organised events and participated in club programmes across South America. Its activity has included appearances at Octava, Klan31, Teatron, KAPUTT, Vagabond, Bud-X Colombia, Top Secret Medellín, Armando Records, Céntrico, Mambo Alive, Sutton and Montibus Fest.
The collective has also developed its own event concepts and collaborations, including Bassline, TLS Parties and Euro Techno. These projects have given TLS space to support emerging artists, create new line-ups and strengthen connections between different parts of the regional electronic music community.
Its reach has extended beyond Bogotá through appearances in cities including Cali, Medellín and Quito. Venues and projects connected with the collective have included Madame Garden, La Fabryka, Victoria, Masha, Vlak, Lede Club, Groove and Dirty Sanchez.
That wider activity reflects the collaborative approach at the centre of The Lab Sessions. Rather than operating only as a promoter or DJ collective, TLS has developed as a platform for events, radio, artist exchange and scene-building across Latin America.
The Assemble series carries that philosophy into radio by presenting artists connected with the collective and the wider underground community. Each edition gives the guests space to represent their own musical direction while remaining part of the broader identity established by The Lab Sessions.
Assemble 07 continues that format with another programme shaped by the collective’s Bogotá roots and its wider network of artists. The episode forms part of a series built around connection, discovery and the exchange of underground electronic music across borders.
Guest DJ Katalina (first hour)
Our first guest DJ is Katalina, also known as KataDíaz, a Colombian DJ originally from Bogotá whose career has taken her from local venues in Colombia to residencies in the Middle East. Her background combines long-standing club experience with a strong interest in vinyl, dancefloor culture and music shaped by several generations of electronic and popular music.
She began DJing in 2000 and steadily developed her profile within Colombia’s electronic music scene. In 2008, she placed third in the Pioneer DJ competition for Colombia, an achievement that helped strengthen her reputation as a technically capable and versatile selector.
Her musical direction is rooted in House, Nu Disco and Tech House, with influences drawn from the Disco and Rock she heard during the 1980s and 1990s. Those early references continue to inform the way she approaches rhythm, groove and track selection.
Katalina is also a dedicated vinyl collector and continues to value the physical side of DJ culture. Her Mixcloud reflects that background, with sets shaped by the blend of old and new material that has followed her throughout her career.
Her early work included appearances at local venues such as Hard Rock Cafe before opportunities abroad expanded her reach. She later established herself through residencies and performances across the Middle East, building experience with international audiences and different club environments.
Her venue history includes ToroToro in Abu Dhabi, Impressions Lounge in Abu Dhabi and La Vista 55 Nightclub in Doha. These residencies helped broaden her profile beyond Colombia and gave her a strong presence within the region’s nightlife and hospitality circuit.
Across each stage of her career, Katalina has maintained a style centred on groove, musicality and crowd connection. Her selections reflect both her Colombian roots and the broader international experience gained through years of performing abroad.
For her appearance on Assemble 07, Katalina brings that extensive background into The Lab Sessions programme. Her contribution adds another international link to a series built around Colombian artists, global connections and underground electronic music.
Guest DJ Yamila Charpentier (second hour)
The second guest DJ for this week is Yamila Charpentier, who comes from Rosario, Argentina. Since childhood, she has been deeply passionate about music and received lessons in playing several instruments. As she got older, she became a member of a melodic nu-metal band.
During her time in the band, she began to draw inspiration from electronic music and subsequently delved into mastering the art of DJing. Her predominant style today is Progressive House, and she has performed alongside well-known artists at events throughout Argentina. Some of her key influences include Stan Kolev, Mia Mendi, and Nick Warren. Sit back and enjoy the performance!
The first hour, curated by Katalina, begins with Moon Rocket's "Reciprocity" and Daniel Rateuke's "Gold", establishing an Afro House foundation through two releases on MoBlack Records. DJ Fronter and Din Jay then move the programme firmly into House Music, while Davide Mazzilli's "In My Head" provides the first Tech House variation.
Tom Bug with Andre Espeut, 84bit, Sinner & James and Simon Adams keep Katalina's hour strongly house-led, giving the middle and closing sections a direct club groove. Nicholas Ryan's "Gypsy Woman" in Kaytronik's extended remix supplies the sole Deep House selection, adding a deeper contrast before the first hour returns to its house foundation.
The second hour, mixed by Yamila Charpentier, changes direction immediately as Chris Cargo's remix of EANP's "Cubism" introduces a sustained Progressive House sequence. Subandrio's remix of Shannon Davin with Dimuth K, Matter with Dimuth K, Dylan Deck and Interaxxis with Antrim continue that progression through long-form arrangements and increasingly deep melodic movement.
EANP returns with "Awekings" before Marcus Meinhardt introduces Melodic House and Techno through "Mesada". "Darkhall" then sits between melodic and progressive territory before CamelPhat and ARTBAT close the episode with "For A Feeling", completing a second hour built around progressive structure and stronger melodic emphasis.
Across Assemble 07, Katalina and Yamila Charpentier deliver two distinctly different but complementary hours, with the opening half centred on House and Afro House before the programme turns towards Progressive House. Melodic House and Techno becomes increasingly important near the end, giving the episode a clear progression from percussion-led house grooves into deeper and more expansive electronic material.
