DJ Joshua presents the paired Floating Beats and Velvety Elements programmes listed for 14 September 2020 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
DJ Joshua's real name is Joshua Mar, and he is a Portuguese music lover and hoarder for whom electronic music is the most captivating part of his collection. Hailing from Évora, Portugal, he has developed an interest in styles ranging from House and Drum and Bass to Chill-out and Techno.
Floating Beats gives him space to experiment with progressive, calmer, melodic and Techno-focused sounds. Velvety Elements follows in the second hour, with a focus on softer House Music and its varied elements.
He began DJing in the early nineties, making his first mixes and becoming an avid vinyl collector. He played local radio shows covering almost every electronic-music style, performed at events planned with friends, and saw radio as a way to reach listeners as Portugal's rave scene grew.
The intensity of his relationship with music led him to take a break from the scene after the birth of his daughter. After several years of fatherhood, he returned to radio to satisfy that enduring interest and Floating Beats Sessions was born.
His Floating Beats and Velvety Elements podcasts have been broadcast on several radio stations internationally. Joshua describes the show in his own words: 'Music is an art form. Is the fusion of elements that can convey emotions and make the body move ... This is a place where you hear sounds that can float and end up falling onto your body ... Enjoy it.'
Across the programmes, Joshua explores a mixture of House Music and Techno sub-genres. These include Deep House, Tech House, Melodic House, Detroit Techno, Soulful House, Progressive House, Techno, Vocal House and Melodic Techno.
Floating Beats opens with Charlie Banks' One Morning In Staines on MicroHertz, establishing a Tech House foundation. Yaya's Up To You on Celesta Recordings keeps that approach in focus during the early part of the first hour.
Soultourist's Televised, released through Drumpoet Community, brings Deep House into the selection. Mathias Kaden's Freakinme on Freude Am Tanzen Recordings then introduces a more direct House Music feel.
Vincent's How I Feel on Klockworks moves into Techno (Raw / Deep / Hypnotic) territory. Danny Howells follows with Mallets on Variety Music, adding Melodic House and Techno to the hour's changing character.
The first programme closes with Mood II Swing Presents The Club Kidds' During Peak Hours, in its Extended Club Version on Nervous Records. Its club-rooted House Music finish leaves the first hour poised between classic house structures and the deeper selections heard earlier.
Velvety Elements begins with Vick Lavender's Meteorites, the Time Traveler Main Mix released on Sophisticado Recordings. AtLows' How Do I Get to Detroit on Souluxe Record Co adds a Funky House edge to the warmer second-hour sound.
Doc Martin, JTJ and Lillia's For The Music on Nervous Records returns the programme to House Music. Platzdasch's The Sun And Your Mood, issued through Nite Grooves, follows with a deeper House Music emphasis.
Sven Tasnadi's Need Nobody on Voltaire Music holds the House Music line before Archie Hamilton's Moving On on MicroHertz changes the texture. Hamilton's track supplies the set's first confirmed Deep Tech House passage.
Floorplan's Save the Children on M-Plant and Andrew Meller's Riaz Dhanani Remix of Take A Ride on Noexcuse Records bring House Music and Tech House together near the close. JR From Dallas' Marius Acke Floating Remix of Sweet Melody on Piston Recordings precedes Dave DK's Fahrland & Dave DK Remix of Ahh, So So on EKORD, which finishes Velvety Elements with Afro House.
