Bicycle Corporation presents episode 044 of Roots, a re-edit show, on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Bicycle Corporation is the Italian partnership of DJ and producer Marco Mei and Stefano Ugliano, who is also known as 6884. Their catalogue includes more than 50 tracks across French House, Deep House, Tech House and Techno.
Marco began his career in the early 1990s as part of the crew behind events such as Urban People. His work in Italy brought recognition within the music scene and later led to international bookings.
Stefano, who is from Torino, developed an interest in music during childhood and devoted much of his spare time to it. He studied classical piano, percussion and drums, while also appreciating Chopin’s compositions and the tribal energy of West African djembe.
Alongside these musical interests, Stefano was drawn to the work of DJs and to records rarely heard on Italian radio at the time. The prospect of making and playing such music became central to the vision that eventually led to Bicycle Corporation.
The pair have revisited some of their early tracks and created a Bandcamp page through which to share them. Their archive offers another perspective on the project’s early work and subsequent releases.
Roots explores records and styles that have informed Bicycle Corporation’s electronic releases, including Funk, Disco, Soul, Afrobeat, Electro, Rare Groove, Hip Hop and Afrocentric music. Episode 044 focuses on re-edits and remixes of original recordings by a range of producers and remixers.
Bicycle Corporation is available for booking via our DJ agency for Asia. The episode places established recordings beside contemporary reinterpretations, giving its selected edits room to reshape familiar material.
Bicycle Corporation’s Roots episode 044 re-edit show opens with Rational Youth’s Le Meilleur Des Mondes, released through Universal Music Canada - Catalog (Domestic), before Dadamnphreaknoizphunk’s Grand Royal on WWW.HARDFLOOR.DE. The opening moves from Alternative material into Organic House, then James Brown’s If You Don’t Give A Doggone About It brings Soul and Funk into focus.
People’s Choice’s Do It Any Way You Wanna in Clemens Rumpf’s Re-Edit establishes a Disco direction, followed by Alan Da Funk’s The Disco on Azurro Dancea Recordings. Chic’s Everybody D a n c e in Mr. Turner’s Classic Edit and Azymuth’s Jazz Carnival in the Da Lukas Re-Disco retain that dancefloor thread, while Gilberto Gil’s Toda Menina in the Julian Sanza Edit brings Brazilian jazz sensibility into the sequence.
Eddie Grant’s Electric Avenue in the Julian Sanza Edit leads into Aretha Franklin’s Jump To It in Nova Black’s Late Night Edit, both recast for the episode’s edit-led approach. KC and the Sunshine Band’s I’m Your Boogie Man in the Michael Elyot Edit precedes The Sunburst Band’s Big Blow, whose Joey Negro Club Mix on Z Records supplies a Nu-Disco lift.
Pure Energy’s Party On, issued by Unidisc Music, shifts the programme towards House Music. Marvin Gaye’s Got To Give Up in the Koncorde Rework and Bohannon’s Let’s Start II Dance Again in the Andy Buchan Edit bring the selection back to extended club-minded reworkings of classic recordings.
Bob Marley’s Could You Be Loved in the Say Something Julian Sanza Remix introduces a Reggae reference before Chilly’s For Your Love in the djFATtrip Edit returns to disco. Extended Family’s Ulysses in Harvey’s Crowd Control Mix, released through Auto Recordings, then restores the house-led momentum.
Fela Kuti, Bruno Flores and Renzo Zong’s 2000 in the Blacks Edit brings an Afrobeat reference to the final section. Uptown Funk Empire’s Boogie in the SOS Remix, issued on Soulab, closes the programme with a return to funk.
