Vietnamese DJ Tommy To presents his first guest show, podcast 168, on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Tommy, whose real name is Nguyen Minh Khoa, was born and raised in Saigon, Vietnam. He wears his national pride through his character and every aspect of his mixes.
He believes that music is an essential ingredient of life, expressing feeling and emotion through melody. When his career began in late 2016, he demonstrated his skills across bass music, tribal techno and electro.
However varied his selections, Tommy brings Vietnamese characteristics into the music he makes. He has taken part in events in the Vietnamese scene including Dim., Camdaibass, NYE, Technofish and Hipoiz Battle.
He also performs regularly at bars and clubs in Saigon and Danang, including Piu Piu Saigon, Indika Saigon, Snuffbox, Wamsaigon, Lunar Bar and Minsk Bar. Bass Meditation Community is also among the places where he has performed, alongside many others.
Alongside solo performances, Tommy has shared the stage with international and local artists including Skulz, Bobby D, Larria, Niskala, Psy Color, Tizone and Zoey. His collaborators and fellow performers also include Providence, Attiss Ngo, Chiulinh, LC King, Koo, New Fame, Wean Le, Teddy Chilla, Minoto and Andy Lucas.
At the time of publication, Tommy planned to introduce further music and tracks carrying his own material and fervour. His intention was to make a lasting impression on listeners through those projects.
DJ Tommy To's first guest show, podcast 168 opens with Maga's Another Day, Funkermunk's Soulful and Mente Orgánica's Agua Turbia featuring Memorabilia. Violeta Parra's Santiago penando estas then appears in Jonajosu's remix, bringing the set's confirmed Dreamdance element into view.
Kapoor & Hvitling's Daeargryn on Akumandra is followed by Beyhude's Operasyon and Massive Attack's Inertia Creeps in the Tolga Maktay X - Tanbul edit. LEN's Semblanza AEP018 leads to Kapoor & Hvitling's Zora, also on Akumandra, with its confirmed Electronic character.
Gázel's Aqua Faba and Jonajosu's Legoland set up Amir Telem's Back to Vaikunta in the Kapoor & Hvitling remix for trndmsk. The run returns to Kapoor & Hvitling's Daeargryn before Lukas Bohlender's Pan and Dionysus on Akumandra deepen the Electronica thread.
Metrist's Argent is followed by S. S.'s Legends in ÜNAM's rethink and Cem Yıldız's Güzel Aşık in the Land edit for trndmsk. Maga's The Berliner then gives way to Polynation's Cascade in O.D.Math's remix.
Hybu's Euthanasie in Blâme's remix on [RE]SOURCES introduces the programme's confirmed Breaks selection. Balsam Drum's JAY precedes Aetius Boutefoy's Auwa on Inward Records, adding a confirmed Deep House moment.
Anonymity Cosmos supplies Jaws 2018 and SAD EMOJI :( featuring Baptiste, before Host's All Night Every Night returns to Electronic territory. Red Axes and Minh Duong's Phu Quok on K7 Records brings in Electro, while Red Axes close with Hue on !K7 Records and its confirmed House Music foundation.
