DJ Joshua, known in the music scene as Joshua Mar, is a true connoisseur of electronic music from Évora, Portugal. His passion for music began with vinyl, and his collection spans multiple genres.
His strongest musical interests are the rhythms of Deep House, Techno, Melodic Techno and Progressive House. Through Floating Beats, he explores progressive sounds alongside the calmer and more melodic side of electronic music.
Floating Beats is a weekly programme for listeners drawn to melodic house, deep house music and techno music. It gives Joshua space to experiment with those styles and with underground electronic music.
Velvety Elements was introduced as a second hour to Floating Beats. The segment concentrates on warmer, deeper and more soulful House Music, including Vocal House and Detroit Techno.
Joshua started his career in the early 1990s and became involved in Portugal's underground scene through local radio shows. He mixed styles from Tech House to Progressive House Music as rave culture expanded in Portugal.
His growing involvement in techno events and house music events led to performances at prominent venues in the country. The birth of his daughter then brought a temporary hiatus from music.
His enduring connection with music brought him back to the creation of Floating Beats Sessions. The programme is a place where he shares music intended to move both mind and body across a spectrum of genres.
"Music is an art form," Joshua says, "a fusion of elements that can evoke emotions and compel the body to move. 'Floating Beats' is where you can hear sounds that float, ultimately landing softly on your soul."
In his weekly programmes, Joshua mixes House Music and Techno styles ranging from Soulful House and Melodic Techno to Detroit House and Vocal House. His podcasts have gained international acclaim through broadcasts on House Music Radio and Techno Radio stations worldwide.
In the first hour, Floating Beats opens with Satoshi Fumi's Manis on Bedrock Records, setting out a Melodic House and Techno direction. Damian Rausch follows with the deep house cut In Space on Traum, before Hideo Kobayashi's Chikuma on Fuente Music brings in Afro House.
Ian O'Donovan's Summer Rain on When We Dip Records returns to melodic house and techno, while Hiroshi Watanabe's There's A Way Foward arrives from Attack The Music as dance music. Heckman's Apricity on Atmosphere Records then restores the melodic house and techno thread before the next change in pace.
The Mole People's Break Night shifts Floating Beats towards house music, with no label confirmed in the supplied track information. Vince Watson's Afrosoul Mix of Voodoo Disco on Yoruba Records adds deep house, leading into 51 Days' Tracktion on Touche.
Floating Beats closes its section with Dimitri and Clarence Brandon's Theobald Ringer Remix of Sonic Monks on Metrohm. Its Peak Time Techno focus gives the first hour a firmer club-facing finish.

Strobelight Shadow's 2012 on Tsuba introduces Tech House to Velvety Elements. AtLows follows with How Do I Get to Detroit on Souluxe Record Co, bringing a Funky House lift to the programme.
Forteba's Jetfinder on Plastic City returns to deep house, followed by Franck Roger and Mandel Turner's Carlo Gambino Remix of After All on Real Tone Records. Hideo Kobayashi ends the second hour with No Nothing on Fuente Music, bringing the programme back to Tech House.
