DJ Joshua presented the Floating Beats and Velvety Elements programmes on Scientific Sound Asia with track lists for the 22 June 2020 broadcast. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
DJ Joshua, whose real name is Joshua Mar, is a passionate music lover and vinyl collector from Evora, Portugal. His deep connection with electronic music, particularly Deep House and Melodic House, is a defining feature of his character.
Joshua’s extensive collection spans electronic styles from House Music to Drum and Bass, Chill-out, and especially Techno. His weekly show, “Floating Beats”, allows him to explore sounds ranging from progressive and melodic selections to more intense Techno.
His Velvety Elements radio show focuses on the softer House Music genres, with particular emphasis on Melodic House and Vocal House elements. Joshua began mixing in the early nineties and quickly became an avid vinyl collector.
His love for House Music and Techno led him to perform at events organised with friends. As Portugal’s rave scene gained momentum, Joshua recognised radio’s power to reach and engage audiences.
Although he took a break from the music scene after becoming a father, his passion for music did not diminish. This led to the creation of Floating Beats Sessions, where he shares his love for Deep House, Melodic House, and Techno with listeners.
His weekly broadcasts feature Deep House, Tech House, Melodic House, Detroit Techno, Soulful House, Progressive House, Vocal House, and Melodic Techno. Joshua’s shows are broadcast on House Music radio and Techno radio stations around the world, demonstrating his knowledge and love of the music.
In the first hour, Floating Beats opens with Delano Smith’s Safe Place on Mixmode Recordings, bringing in House Music. Toman’s Snowy Groove on Blind Vision Records follows with a deeper emphasis on Deep House.
DJ VIBE and Fauvrelle’s The Present & the Future, released through In Flagrante Music, keeps the first-hour selection rooted in House Music. The opening section establishes the contrast between the programme’s direct house foundation and its deeper material.
Gorge’s We Start Again on Voltaire Music introduces Tech House to Floating Beats. Its position after the opening house records gives the hour a firmer club-focused direction.
Eat Dust’s Desabafo, from the Bonzai Back Catalogue, closes the documented Floating Beats sequence. The Tech House record provides a pointed conclusion to Joshua’s first programme.
Velvety Elements begins with Juliet Fox’s 6AM in its Afterhours Mix on Toolroom Trax, introducing Minimal textures. Benneyybeatz’s Hold On on Touched Music brings in Electronica, while DJ Ino and MC Johnny Def’s Norman Webber remix of Feel on Kontor Records adds Ambient material.
Denney and James Dexter’s Lucid Dreams on Rebellion returns the second programme to Deep House, followed by Chris Stussy’s Sonaris on MicroHertz. Franck Roger’s Ruffcut on Rutilance Recordings sustains that approach before Thierry Tomas’ Rhythm#2 on Robsoul Recordings introduces Funky House.
Darren Emerson’s Sleeping Bag on Selador brings the sequence back towards Deep House. Finest Wear’s Searching on Kolour Recordings then restores a House Music pulse before Leon and NiCe7’s Please Don’t Leave, in the NiCe7 Club Mix on Crosstown Rebels, returns to deeper territory.
Hideo Kobayashi’s Listen to the Voice on Fuente Music gives the closing run a further House Music moment. Vince Watson’s The Spirit Dance on Yoruba Records and Platzdasch and Dix’s Sharp Motion on King Street Sounds complete Velvety Elements with Deep House selections.
