DJ Joshua’s Floating Beats and Velvety Elements programmes were presented on Scientific Sound Asia for 15 June 2020. Scientific Sound Asia is an electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
DJ Joshua, known to many as Joshua Mar, is a music enthusiast from Évora, Portugal. His collection spans house, Drum and Bass, Chillout and techno, bringing together high-energy material and more measured selections.
Floating Beats is Joshua’s weekly programme, available through DJ Joshua’s Mixcloud page, and centres on electronic music with melodic and rhythmic detail. Velvety Elements provides a complementary focus on the warmer and more soulful side of house.
Joshua began mixing and collecting vinyl in the early 1990s. During his formative years, he worked with local radio stations, explored a range of electronic styles and hosted events influenced by Portugal’s rave culture.
His early work drew on music’s capacity to bring people together, using radio to share that enthusiasm with a wider audience. After becoming a father, Joshua stepped back from the music scene to concentrate on family life before returning to refresh his shows, including Floating Beats Sessions.

The programmes draw on house and techno variations, including deep, tech, melodic, Detroit, soulful, progressive and vocal house, alongside melodic techno. Joshua’s podcasts have reached listeners internationally through electronic music platforms and radio networks.
Floating Beats and Velvety Elements pair energetic tempos with softer harmonies across their separate formats. Listeners can also find DJ Joshua on SoundCloud, where his work sits alongside the weekly programmes.
In the first hour, Floating Beats opens with Magit Cacoon’s Aussi on Rebellion and Ian O'Donovan’s Bajau on Einmusika Recordings, establishing Melodic House and Techno tones. Dave Angel’s Belle Ame on Rotation Records then tightens the energy before Oniris brings Borderline from Astropolis Records back towards melodic territory.
Adam Beyer, Green Velvet and Layton Giordani follow with Space Date on Drumcode, bringing the set into Peak Time Techno. Ian O'Donovan and Luca Gaeta’s Telepathy on Phobiq sustains that pressure with a direct club-focused approach.
Blake Baxter’s Kevin Saunderson Reese You No Extended Remix of Tenth Planet, released through KMS Records (BEAT Music Fund), adds a Detroit-rooted techno reference. Jules Wells and Mason Rubinstein’s Resurrection on Hijacked Records Detroit keeps the first hour firmly in that mode.
Dast’s Collide appears next without assigning an unsupported genre to the track. Senses Of Mind closes the Floating Beats selection with After Earth on Proton Music, returning the hour to its melodic electronic focus.
In the second hour, Velvety Elements begins with The Model’s Transitions on Housewax, moving into House Music. Cotonete’s DJ Deep & Romain Poncet Acid Remix of Layla on Heavenly Sweetness then introduces a more stripped-back Deep House feel.
Fynn Callum’s Jonny Bee Remix of Deep South West on UM Records (6) extends the deeper passage. Nolan and Mr. V’s It's a Trap follows before Jay Newman’s Orange on Celestial Recordings restores the low-slung house emphasis.
Kevin Yost’s Resonant Version of Jump on TSOY and Shur-I-Kan’s Freakin on Lazy Days Music keep the second hour measured and understated. Forteba’s Jetfinder on Plastic City provides a further deep-house selection before Nathan Barato’s Music.
DJ Sneak’s Stars on Too Many Rules, Platzdasch and Dix’s Stewpit on King Street Sounds, and Dubtribe Sound System’s Equitoreal on Jive bring the set back towards fuller house rhythms. Manuel Costela and Sauco’s Three Flowers precedes Nikki O and Javonntte’s Love Without Dub, which closes Velvety Elements with its final vocal-led selection.
