Bipolar Bear presents BADABOOM 04 with guest DANE on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Bipolar Bear, real name Stefan Paunescu, is a Romanian DJ from the small provincial city of Craiova in the south of the country. Growing up there presented difficulties for the teenage Stefan, as access to cutting-edge music was scarce in the former Eastern Bloc, where musical influences often arrived through MTV.
With the birth and development of the internet, the teenage Bipolar Bear was able to explore many different genres and witness music's digital revolution. Romanian DJ and producer Bipolar Bear has a genuine passion for producing and playing quality music, building eclectic sets intended to guide an audience through his selections.
His aim is to spread positive energy through his work as a DJ and producer. After leaving Romania and carving his way in Manchester's music scene, his project Odwana combined electronic dance music with world sounds, African percussion and empowering vocals, gaining attention on the UK festival circuit.
At the beginning of 2019, he relocated to Da Nang, Vietnam, and set up the party brand Badaboom with fellow DJ G Nomad, aiming to develop Central Vietnam's party scene. The Badaboom radio show shares the spirit of their events with a community of like-minded listeners, ranging from funk, soul and rare groove to experimental electronic music.
This episode takes a deeper, spiritual direction across two hours of hypnotic beats, with a focus on melodic techno while moving between styles. It begins with a tribute to the late drummer Tony Allen, who had recently passed away at the time of the broadcast.
The opening track is an extract from the late musician's collaborative album with Jeff Mills, a Detroit figure and pioneer of techno music. Another highlight is Romain FX's Hmmmm, released a few days earlier on the Kimokeye EP, the first imprint from the Vietnam-based label On Point Worldwide.
Bipolar Bear's BADABOOM 04 episode with DANE opens with Tony Allen, Jeff Mills and Carl Hancock Rux's The Night Watcher edit, followed by Funkenschleuder's Song Of The Road edit and Panda Dub's Into The Woods featuring Poussin. Nicola Cruz's Cumbia del Olvido then brings Downtempo detail from ZZK Records into the opening passage.
Nicolas Jaar's No introduces Disco from Other People before Unders' Satori remix of Syria changes the texture. Jaar returns with Too Many Kids Finding Rain in the Dust, an Indie Dance selection on Nova Records, while Trio Macoto's Salvador Araguaya edit of Nago follows.
Sabo's Zakir ‘Back To The Roots’ mix of Timbiqui Hasta DC featuring Nidia Gongora carries the programme into Melodic House and Techno territory via Sol Selectas, before Poison Ghost's radio mix of Shibuya Meltdown. Amonita's Fairy brings Deep House from All Day I Dream, and Omar S's Desert Eagle supplies House Music on FXHE Records.
Romain FX's Hmmmm keeps the house focus in place through On Point Worldwide Records, leading into Township Rebellion's Massive and its Tech House edge on Tommy Boy. Monolink's New Morning brings Melodic Progressive colour from Deepalma Records, before Agents Of Time's Stoke returns to deep house on Stem Records.
Tale Of Us' Rødhåd remix of Ricordi introduces Electronica through Deutsche Grammophon, with ARTBAT's Papillon following on fryhide. Mano Le Tough's I See Myself in You on Permanent Vacation gives way to More Than Human's Feline, released by Eternity Sounds, keeping the melodic house and techno emphasis present.
Oliver Schories' Fakir brings Progressive House from SOSO before Acid Pauli's Axel Boman remix of Jeanne returns to tech house on Ouie. Henrik Schwarz's Omnibus on Innervisions precedes Afriquoi's Acid Attack, which closes with Afro House from Mawimbi.
