DJ Joshua presents Floating Beats 428 and Velvety Elements 01 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
DJ Joshua, identified here by his real name Joshua Mar, is a music collector based in Évora, Portugal. His collection suits his eclectic tastes and includes House, Drum and Bass, Chillout and Techno.
His collection also shows a profound love for electronic music, which first prompted his curiosity about a wide range of styles. Those interests inform his approach to Floating Beats, where he works with progressive, melodic and Techno influences.
Floating Beats provides Joshua with a weekly outlet for deeper progressive music and measured melodic passages. Velvety Elements was introduced as a second-hour programme focused on the softer side of House music and layered textures.
Joshua began DJing in the early 1990s, when his growing vinyl collection encouraged his interest in mixing. He first appeared on local radio, playing an eclectic range of electronic music.
Early House and Techno events, often organised with friends, coincided with the rise of Portugal's rave scene. Radio became an important way for him to reach and engage an audience.
Driven by considerable energy and a lasting passion for music, Joshua stepped away briefly following the birth of his daughter. After several years focused on fatherhood, he returned by founding a radio show that developed into Floating Beats Sessions.
Reflecting on his craft, Joshua articulates, "Music is an art form. It is a fusion of elements that convey emotions and compel the body to move. This is a space where sounds can float and ultimately resonate within you, enjoy the journey."
Across his weekly programmes, Joshua plays House and Techno in forms including Deep House, Tech House, Melodic House, Detroit House, Soulful House, Progressive House, Vocal House, Melodic Techno and Techno. His podcasts have received international recognition and are broadcast by House and Techno radio stations worldwide.
In the first hour, Floating Beats 428 opens with Claro Intelecto's Patience on Delsin Records, introducing Peak Time Techno. Subb-an and Adam Shelton's Twilight on One Records then brings in Deep Tech House rhythms.
Upercent's BOg remix of Pulcre, released by Watergate Records, introduces Melodic House and Techno to the early passage. Cebb's Solar Path on Way Of House returns the programme to Peak Time Techno.
Theobald Ringer follows with Brian Kage's remixes of G10 on Carton-Pate Records and Pedro in Tokyo on Metrohm. Petit Beurre's Dhara on Motech Records keeps the first hour in Peak Time Techno territory.
Ian O'Donovan's Strings of Eha appears before Pique and Darksiight's Nox, issued through KMS Records. Louie J's Sascha Sonido remix of The Light completes the Floating Beats selection with a firm electronic finish.
In the second hour, Velvety Elements 01 begins with Frag Maddin's Poke Along on JANX Records. 2020 Soundsystem's Makam remix of Broken on 20:20 Vision establishes the warmer House Music direction.
Devv's Cleave Martinez remix of Reverie on Farmat returns to Deep Tech House before Panevino and Mr. V's The Gift. Platzdasch's Mo Slowtion on Gents & Dandy's introduces Deep House to the second programme.
Lauren Lo Sung's Hso on Lolife brings Deep Tech House back into focus, followed by Cinthie's This Bomb Is Mine. Sascha Sonido's Katima on Plastic City restores the House Music emphasis.
Javonntte's Groove Society.....Detroit and Saison's Kevin Yost remix of One Day lead into Osunlade's Franck Roger's remix of Same, Same on Yoruba Records, adding Afro House. Trentemøller's In Progress on Naked Music closes Velvety Elements 01 with House Music and the full-length character of the programme intact.
