Bipolar Bear Announces Playlist For Badaboom With Co-host Dane

Bipolar Bear and co-host DANE feature in Badaboom 03 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally, including China, Vietnam, Malaysia, India and Sri Lanka.

Bipolar Bear, whose real name is Stefan Paunescu, is a Romanian DJ from Craiova, a small provincial city in southern Romania. As a teenager in the former Eastern Bloc, he found options for buying cutting-edge music scarce, in a setting where MTV shaped many musical influences.

The growth of the internet gave the teenage Bipolar Bear access to many different genres as he witnessed music's digital revolution. With a passion for producing and playing quality music, he builds eclectic sets intended to guide an audience through his selections.

He aims to spread positive energy through his work. After leaving Romania and carving his way through Manchester's music scene as a DJ and producer, his Odwana project brought electronic dance music together with world sounds, African percussion and empowering vocals on the UK festival circuit.

At the beginning of 2019, he relocated to Da Nang, Vietnam, and established the party brand Badaboom with fellow DJ G Nomad to raise the profile of Central Vietnam's party scene. Badaboom Radio Show follows the spirit of their events by sharing music with a community of like-minded people.

The show ranges from funk, soul and rare groove to more experimental electronic music. For this 2020 edition, the guest DJ was DANE of This Is... and Slowly in Hanoi.

Following creative parties including This Is and Slowly, DANE had already contributed to Asia's underground scene with an upward trajectory in Balearic Techno. He began digging for records as respite from a demanding nine-to-five routine and developed a no-rules, no-boundaries approach to mixing and presenting parties.

Hanoi's underground music scene had been his focus for three years by the time of this broadcast. DANE had played alongside Jauge, DJ Normal 4, Prosumer, Local Suicide and Thomas Von Party.

He had also held residencies at Savage and Studio Adventure while encouraging local artists to push the scene forward. His sets drew strong responses from peers and brought new supporters to his work.

Bipolar Bear and DANE's Badaboom 03 episode opens with Selvy's Pops on No Bad Days, establishing a House Music foundation before DJ Die and Dismantle's Spirit World (Original Mix) on Gutterfunk brings in Breaks. Valique's Feels so Good on Walk of Sound restores the house pulse, while Galaxians' Darshan Jesrani remix of How Do U Feel on Future Disco introduces Nu-Disco.

Barry & Gibbs' Hanging at the Disco keeps the selection close to Disco before Lucien & The Kimono Orchestra's Mangabey remix of Color Dialog on Cracki Records adds Electronica. Moodena's Gil's Groove on Tropical Disco Records and Paul Older's Kuma Kuma (Original Mix) on Furious Mandrill Records then sustain the Nu-Disco character.

Knuckle G's Love Poet on De La Groove moves into Deep House, a direction reinforced by Boo Williams' The Place Of Safety on Strictly Jaz Unit Extensions. Ksky's Taj Raya on KSKY TRX and Joss Moog's Ondulations on Ondule Recordings keep that deeper strain present before Ketiov's Rhythm #1 on Running Back returns to House Music.

Ayala's Musumeci remix of Journey on MoBlack Records introduces Indie Dance to the later section. Sandboards' Holiday Illusion on Cold Tonic develops the same indie dance thread with a lighter, club-focused finish to this passage.

Dee Montero's Azure (Drum Mix) on Knee Deep In Sound brings the set back to Deep House through a drum-led treatment. Dombrance's Raffarin on Big Ben Burning then introduces an Ambient contrast.

Uptown Funk Empire's Boogie on Bombstrikes closes the penultimate stretch with another Nu-Disco accent. Phil Anker's Baby on welofi brings the programme home in House Music territory.
